The multidisciplinary festival of the Abruzzo summer, featuring theatre, music, dance, and live arts.
The Spoltore Ensemble is a multidisciplinary festival that brings the historic centre of Spoltore, an elegant hilltop village in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, to life every summer. Founded in 1983, it is one of the region's longest-running cultural events: from theatre to music, dance to cabaret, and visual arts to literature, the festival traverses genres and languages, turning medieval squares and alleys into one large, open-air stage.
The festival is decentralised by nature: performances take place between Largo San Giovanni, Piazza D'Albenzio, and Piazza Di Marzio, the heart of Spoltore's historic centre. This format allows the public to experience the event while strolling through the village streets, enjoying evening concerts, theatrical performances, dance galas, and literary meetings. The village's architectural setting, with its churches and panoramic views towards the Adriatic coast, adds charm to every evening.
The artistic direction, entrusted to maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante, curates a programme each year that alternates well-known Italian performers with more experimental acts. Over the years, the festival has hosted plays, symphonic and chamber concerts, dance galas with performers from major international theatres, comedy and cabaret nights, as well as cycles of author meetings and book presentations. The cross-pollination between disciplines is the festival's hallmark.
With over forty years of history, the Spoltore Ensemble has established itself as a cultural hub of the Abruzzo summer, attracting spectators from across the region and beyond. The event is organised by the City of Spoltore with the support of local bodies and foundations, confirming year after year the municipality's commitment to making culture a core identity and a driver for tourism.
The Spoltore Ensemble turns 44 and returns from 12 to 16 August 2026 in the historic centre of Spoltore, in the province of Pescara. Five days of live art that confirm the event as one of the highlights of the Abruzzo cultural summer, with theatre, concerts, dance, and major performances in the village squares.
As per tradition, the festival will be spread across Largo San Giovanni, Piazza D'Albenzio, and Piazza Di Marzio, under the artistic direction of maestro Giuliano Mazzoccante. The detailed programme with the schedule of shows and guests will be communicated by the organisation on the official website and social media channels in the weeks preceding the event.
Spoltore is located just a few kilometres from Pescara. By car, take the Pescara Ovest (A25) or Pescara Ovest/Chieti motorway exit; the historic centre is reachable in about 15 minutes from the city. By train, arrive at Pescara Centrale station, then take connecting buses to Spoltore. Abruzzo Airport (Pescara) is a short distance away.
Tickets are available online at ciaotickets.com and at the Largo San Giovanni box office on performance evenings, subject to availability.
The festival is spread throughout the historic centre: we recommend arriving early to park in areas outside the village and walking to the squares. As these are outdoor evenings, please bring appropriate clothing for the night-time temperatures.
