The summer concert of the San Genesio brass band following the closing prayer
The Sommerkonzert der Musikkapelle Jenesien is the annual summer highlight where the San Genesio Atesino/Jenesien brass band greets the community in the heart of the season. The evening begins with the Gebetsschluss, the closing prayer celebrated at the parish church, followed by the concert itself on the Dorfplatz, the village square on the Salto (Tschögglberg) plateau in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige.
Admission is free, and the format is typical of South Tyrolean band evenings: live music in the open air, a village atmosphere, and a meeting of generations. The concert is generally held on a Sunday in the late afternoon and continues into the early evening, blending religious devotion with community celebration.
The Musikkapelle Jenesien, founded in 1856, is one of the historic musical ensembles of the Tschögglberg. Bringing together about seventy musicians and led by conductor Ralf Stefan Troger, the band offers a repertoire ranging from traditional brass music—marches, polkas, and waltzes—to symphonic wind music and sophisticated modern entertainment. The band has always accompanied the main religious and civil ceremonies of San Genesio and is an integral part of the municipality's identity.
The event takes place in San Genesio Atesino, a German-speaking municipality overlooking Bolzano/Bozen from the Salto plateau, a popular hiking destination loved for its meadows, mountain farms, and views of the Dolomites. The Sommerkonzert is the perfect opportunity to combine a trip to the mountains with an evening of authentic South Tyrolean brass music.
For the summer of 2026, the Musikkapelle Jenesien confirms its traditional appointment: Sunday, August 23, 2026, starting at 5:30 PM and running until 10:00 PM, at the Pfarrkirche and the Dorfplatz of San Genesio Atesino. After the Gebetsschluss, the closing prayer, the band conducted by Ralf Stefan Troger will perform its summer concert featuring marches, polkas, waltzes, and symphonic wind music. Admission is free. The detailed program of pieces will be announced by the band in the weeks leading up to the event.
San Genesio Atesino/Jenesien can be reached from Bolzano in about 20 minutes by car along the road that climbs the Salto plateau, or via the San Genesio cable car (Seilbahn Jenesien) departing from Bolzano. The concert takes place at the parish church and the village square.
Free entry. In case of bad weather, the event may be moved or cancelled: it is recommended to check with the Musikkapelle Jenesien.
