The summer festival of the Volunteer Fire Department of Gargazzone
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sommerfest der FF Gargazon is the summer festival organized by the Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gargazon, the Volunteer Fire Department of Gargazzone (known as Gargazon in German), a small town of just over 1,600 inhabitants in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Located along the Adige Valley halfway between Merano and Bolzano, the village retains the traditional charm of South Tyrolean hamlets, with its parish church, the iconic Kröllturm, and a vibrant community life.
The festival takes place at the Festplatz, the village's open-air event area, which becomes the community's main gathering point every summer. True to the tradition of South Tyrolean Sommerfests, the event offers food stalls with traditional dishes, draft beer, desserts, and a large area dedicated to live music and evening entertainment.
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gargazon was founded in 1908 and today counts dozens of active volunteers. As with most Volunteer Fire Departments in South Tyrol, the Sommerfest represents an important moment for self-funding and strengthening ties with the local population: the proceeds support the activities and equipment of the corps, which ensures safety and emergency services within the municipality.
The program combines folk music and dance parties with moments of pure local fun. Recent editions have featured traditional Oberkrainer-style bands and DJ sets, following the classic formula of dancing under the marquee. It is the perfect opportunity to experience an authentic South Tyrolean village festival, far from the main tourist circuits, immersed in local hospitality.
Open to families, residents, and visitors, the Sommerfest der FF Gargazon is a free, informal event that combines the pleasure of good mountain food with concrete support for those who serve the community every day. A small but significant highlight of the summer in Gargazzone.
The Freiwillige Feuerwehr Gargazon has not yet announced the dates and program for the Sommerfest 2026. Given the habits of previous years, the festival is expected to take place during the summer at the Festplatz in Gargazzone, featuring the usual format of food stalls, beer, and live music. We recommend following the Facebook page of the Volunteer Fire Department of Gargazzone for updated dates and details.
