The summer festival by Musikkapelle Tiers at the finish line of the Rosengarten Schlern Sky Marathon
The Skymarathon Sommerfest is the summer highlight that brings the village square (Dorfplatz) of Tires/Tiers to life, a small municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The festival is organized by the Musikkapelle Tiers, the local brass band, and takes place on the same day as the Rosengarten Schlern Sky Marathon, the famous mountain running race that winds through the Catinaccio (Rosengarten) massif and the Sciliar (Schlern) in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
As athletes tackle the high-altitude trails, the village fills with energy. The festival opens its doors at 10:00 AM and continues until late at night: the square becomes the finish line for the race, hosting award ceremonies and the post-race celebration. Spectators can cheer for the runners along the route, welcome the finishers at the line, or simply enjoy the day with great food and music.
The soundtrack is provided by local ensembles: the Schlernblech performs in the morning, while the Bergdiamanten take the stage in the afternoon, providing entertainment from the aperitif hour through the evening. The Musikkapelle Tiers handles the hospitality with regional gastronomic specialties, beer, and drinks.
The sporting heart of the day is the skymarathon, one of the most scenic trail running events in South Tyrol. The start is set in the hamlet of San Cipriano (St. Zyprian), while the finish is in the center of Tires. The program includes three distances: the Sky Marathon of approximately 46 km with 3,000 meters of elevation gain, the Sky Trail of 36 km with 2,000 meters of elevation gain, and the Sky Run of 16 km. The longest route crosses the Coronelle Pass, Prince Pass, and Molignon Pass, climbs the Sciliar, and leads to the Tschafon before returning to Tires, attracting hundreds of athletes from all over Europe.
The Skymarathon Sommerfest combines two souls of the region: the sporting spirit of the Dolomite mountains and the convivial tradition of Tyrolean culture, with the local band at the center of the action. It is the ideal occasion to experience Tires/Tiers on one of its most lively days, amidst the peaks of the Catinaccio, brass band music, and South Tyrolean hospitality.
The 2026 edition of the Skymarathon Sommerfest took place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the village square of Tires/Tiers, on the same day as the ninth edition of the Rosengarten Schlern Sky Marathon. The festival, managed by the Musikkapelle Tiers, kicked off at 10:00 AM with entertainment by the Schlernblech in the morning and the Bergdiamanten in the afternoon.
The race, which sold out with 500 athletes from about thirty nations, featured three distances: the 46 km Sky Marathon, the 36 km Sky Trail, and the debut of the 16 km Sky Run. The start took place at 7:00 AM in the hamlet of San Cipriano (St. Zyprian), while the finish, award ceremonies, and the party enlivened the town center until nightfall, with South Tyrolean cuisine, beer, and music.
