The Sizzano Wine Festival

In the small town of Sizzano, in the Province of Novara, one of the finest oenological treasures of Upper Piedmont takes center stage: the Sizzano DOC Wine Exhibition. For an entire week, Piazza Prone and the streets of the historic center come alive with stalls, long tables, wine bars, and stages for live music, making it one of the longest-running and most beloved events in the Novara area. Carefully organized by the Pro Loco Sizzano, the festival blends the culture of fine wine with the authentic joy of community.

Sizzano DOC, the star in the glass

The heart of the event is, naturally, the Sizzano DOC, a red wine crafted from Nebbiolo, Vespolina, and Uva Rara grapes, which serves as a symbol of the winemaking tradition of the Novara Hills. During the exhibition, visitors can also sample other local wines, such as Colline Novaresi DOC and Erbaluce, on a journey that showcases the oenological richness of this corner of Piedmont at the foot of the Alps.

Traditional cuisine

The wine is perfectly complemented by the hearty, traditional cuisine of Novara. The signature dish is paniscia, a rich risotto made with beans, salam d'la duja, lard, and vegetables, which is a true local institution, served in the square during the main evenings. Alongside the paniscia, you will find mixed fried foods, local cheeses like toma and gorgonzola, and traditional desserts, in a menu that changes nightly.

The Wine Exhibition is about more than just food and wine: every edition features a packed calendar of live concerts, dance evenings, theatrical performances, cultural moments, and sporting events like the historic run through the vineyards.
