A celebration of Galliate's flavors and farming heritage, set against the backdrop of the Sforza Castle.

The Autumn Festival is one of the most cherished events in Galliate: a day that celebrates rural culture and the typical products of the Novara plains. It takes place in Galliate, in the province of Novara (Piedmont), within the evocative setting of Piazza Vittorio Veneto, right in front of the imposing Sforza Castle, a 15th-century fortress now transformed into the city's cultural hub.
From the morning, the square comes alive with traditional markets and the sale of zero-mile agricultural products, a direct expression of the local farmers' hard work. The heart of the event is the rediscovery of the rural world: the display of antique farm equipment and the re-enactment of the traditional corn shelling, gestures of the past that tell the story of field life in the Ticino West area.
There is also ample space for local winemaking traditions, with an exhibition of Galliate winemakers and wine tastings from the region.
The most anticipated moment is the serving of paniscia, the creamy dish that symbolizes Novara cuisine, accompanied by salamelle sausages. There is no shortage of roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and typical sweets, including the Gramolino, a signature pastry of Galliate. It is the perfect opportunity to savor the authentic gastronomy of the Piedmontese peasant tradition.
The day is also marked by music and entertainment: the concert by the local marching band and, in the afternoon, the performance by the Manghin e Manghina folk group, guardians of Galliate's popular traditions. For children and families, traditional popular games are set up, such as the St. Patrick's well and the frog game, alongside bouncy castles.
Organized by the Associazione Rione Bornate with the patronage of the Municipality of Galliate and the A.T.L. of the Province of Novara, the Autumn Festival is a free-entry event designed to bring the community together and introduce visitors to the rural and gastronomic identity of this corner of Piedmont.
For the 2026 edition, the Galliate Autumn Festival will take place on a Sunday in October in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in front of the Sforza Castle. The exact date and the full program will be confirmed by the Associazione Rione Bornate and the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
Based on previous editions, the day includes a morning opening with typical markets and the sale of zero-mile agricultural products, an exhibition of antique farm equipment with the re-enactment of corn shelling, a showcase of Galliate winemakers with local wine tastings, the serving of paniscia and sausages at noon, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and an afternoon performance by the folk group.
