Performances of the Vallagarina National Amateur Theatre Festival at the Pomarolo Municipal Theatre
The Sipario d'Oro is the National Amateur Theatre Festival of Vallagarina, organized by the historic Compagnia di Lizzana "Paolo Manfrini" of Rovereto with the support of the Vallagarina Community and local municipalities. Founded in 1982, it is now one of the most important and long-standing amateur theatre festivals in Italy: every year, between February and March, it offers dozens of performances spread across numerous theatres in the valley. The Municipality of Pomarolo, in the province of Trento, is one of the permanent venues of the festival's regional circuit.
The performances scheduled in Pomarolo are held at the Municipal Theatre (Auditorium) on Piazzale Colonello Angheben 6/A, a hall with about two hundred seats that becomes one of the town's cultural landmarks during the winter months. Here, the audience meets amateur companies from Trentino, with evenings ranging from dialect comedy to brilliant theatre, in the familiar and engaging atmosphere typical of the valley's small communities.
The event is divided into two main sections. The National Competition takes place at the Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto and the Teatro San Floriano in Lizzana, where the best amateur companies, selected from over a hundred applications from all over Italy, compete. The Regional Circuit, of which Pomarolo is a part alongside municipalities such as Trambileno, Castellano, Serravalle, Vallarsa, and others, completes the program by promoting popular theatre and Trentino companies, with admission designed to bring all types of audiences closer to the theatre.
In Pomarolo, the heart of the programme is dialect comedy: plays in the Trentino dialect, local humour, and everyday situations brought to the stage by local amateur groups. It is a theatre that tells the story of the community and preserves its language and traditions, offering evenings of entertainment to a loyal audience that fills the Auditorium every year.
With its long history, the Sipario d'Oro is now a defining event for Vallagarina and the entire Trentino-Alto Adige region. For Pomarolo, it represents an opportunity to open its theatre to the festival's extensive network and to showcase the best of Trentino amateur theatre, just a few kilometres from Rovereto and the Dolomites.
The 45th edition of the Sipario d'Oro took place throughout Vallagarina between February and March 2026. As part of the regional circuit, the Pomarolo Municipal Theatre (Piazzale Colonello Angheben 6/A) hosted three evenings of amateur theatre, all starting at 8:30 PM, dedicated to Trentino dialect comedy.
The Pomarolo programme opened on February 20 with FiloBastìa of Preore in the comedy "En gran rebalton", written and directed by Brunetto Binelli. It continued on February 27 with Filodrammatica "La Logeta" of Gardolo in "Vizini de casa", written by David Conati and translated into Trentino dialect by Mariagiovanna Bonvecchio. The festival in Pomarolo concluded on March 13 with the La Zinzola Theatre Group of Folgaria in the comedy "Varda… no comment" by Fabio Valle.
