The Sieti village festival featuring the flavors of the Picentini Mountains, folk music, and trekking
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
SieTipico is the festival that brings the village of Sieti to life every autumn. Located in the oldest hamlet of the municipality of Giffoni Sei Casali, in the province of Salerno, it sits in the hilly hinterland of Campania. Created by the Associazione Culturale Sieti in collaboration with the local municipal administration, the event combines three simple, iconic ingredients: local produce, live folk music, and outdoor activities along the trails of the Picentini Mountains.
Sieti is no ordinary setting. The hamlet was founded in the 9th century when inhabitants from the coast and the plains moved up the hill to escape Saracen raids; the name is thought to derive from the Latin segetum, a reference to the terraced crops that still define the landscape today. The settlement is divided into Sieti Alto (approx. 440 meters) and Sieti Basso (approx. 400 meters), connected by a series of stone houses following the road.
Restoration efforts in recent decades have transformed Sieti into an albergo diffuso (scattered hotel), with widespread hospitality and a clear vocation for food, wine, and nature tourism: in essence, SieTipico is the annual showcase for this project.
The heart of the festival lies in the food stalls set up throughout the village. They open on Saturday evening and return on Sunday for lunch, serving traditional Picentini peasant dishes. The area around Sieti is filled with chestnut groves, hazelnut orchards, olive groves, and deciduous forests: chestnuts, hazelnuts, and extra virgin olive oil tell the story of the agricultural economy of these Salerno hills better than any brochure, and they find their natural place in the tasting of local products.
Each edition brings folk music groups and local bands to the village. In 2025, Ascarimè performed on Saturday night, followed by Vienneterra on Sunday afternoon; in 2024, the opening night featured the Capri Band. The atmosphere is that of a classic village festival: eating, dancing, and chatting in the alleys, with the day concluding with a prize lottery draw.
On Sunday morning, SieTipico moves beyond the village. In collaboration with the Passione Trekking & Outdoor Picentini association, a guided hike is organized along the trails surrounding the village within the Picentini Mountains Regional Park: a perfect way to enjoy the valley views and return in time for lunch. This is what distinguishes this festival from many others in the province, as it celebrates not just food, but also the joy of walking.
The second edition took place on October 5-6, 2024, and the third on October 11-12, 2025, both held over an October weekend. For 2026, the Associazione Culturale Sieti and the Municipality of Giffoni Sei Casali have not yet released the official calendar: dates will be announced, as usual, through the Municipality's channels and the association's social media profiles.
SieTipico is a small, authentic, and unpretentious festival, the kind organized first and foremost for the local community and only then for visitors. Those who reach Sieti will find a stone village about twenty kilometers from Salerno, a square with a convent in the background, the aroma of the food stalls, and music playing until late. It is also the best opportunity to understand what the concept of an 'albergo diffuso' means today in the Salerno hinterland: restored houses, marked trails, and a community opening its doors for two days.
As of the update of this page, no official calendar has been published for the 2026 edition of SieTipico in Sieti, Giffoni Sei Casali, in the province of Salerno. The three previous editions were held over an October weekend, but neither the Municipality nor the Associazione Culturale Sieti has released dates or programs so far: any information circulating online should be considered unconfirmed.
Based on the 2024 and 2025 editions, the event spans two days and alternates between gastronomy, music, and outdoor activities:
To find out the actual dates, it is best to follow the Giffoni Sei Casali Municipality website and the Facebook page of the Associazione Culturale Sieti, which in previous years announced the event a few weeks before it took place.
Sieti is a hamlet of Giffoni Sei Casali, in the province of Salerno, and can be reached via the provincial road 214 that climbs the Picentini hills. By car: A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, exit at Salerno, then follow signs for Giffoni Sei Casali, about twenty kilometers from the city. The reference railway station is Salerno; the nearest airport is Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi, in Pontecagnano.
The old center of Sieti Alto has narrow, partially pedestrianized alleys: it is best to leave your car in the designated areas further down and walk up to the village.
Updates on dates, programs, and participation details can be found on the Giffoni Sei Casali Municipality website and the Facebook page of the Associazione Culturale Sieti.
