Two days dedicated to the language, culture, and roots of Sicily in Camastra
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Sicilian Identity Festival is a cultural event that brings the town of Camastra, in the heart of the Province of Agrigento, Sicily, to life every summer. Established in 2024, the festival aims to promote the island's linguistic, cultural, and identity heritage, weaving together the rigor of academic conferences with the vibrancy of evening performances and public gatherings.
The program spans two days and takes place in two symbolic locations of the town: the Town Hall, which hosts daytime study sessions and debates, and Piazza Garibaldi, the beating heart of local life, where musical and poetic moments take the stage in the evening. The square also features artisanal stalls, book stands, and local products, accompanying the public between conferences.
The common thread of the event is the Sicilian language, explored not as a relic of the past but as a living, contemporary idiom, alongside popular traditions and the sense of belonging within the island's small communities. The days include book presentations, conferences with university professors, and reflections on food autonomy, local identity, and the future of small Sicilian towns. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Camastra in collaboration with local associations dedicated to protecting the island's culture.
At sunset, Piazza Garibaldi transforms into an open-air stage: concerts, poetry recitals, dance performances, and musical tributes to Sicilian tradition engage residents and visitors alike. It is the moment when the day's study gives way to celebration, in a popular and participatory atmosphere that tells the story of Sicily through its voices and sounds.
The Sicilian Identity Festival is an ideal event for those who want to experience the island's deep culture up close, away from mass tourism circuits. In Camastra, nestled in the hills of the Agrigento hinterland, the event offers an authentic opportunity to listen, debate, and celebrate Sicilian identity in a town that makes the rediscovery of its roots a source of pride and connection.
The 2026 edition of the Sicilian Identity Festival in Camastra has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the event usually takes place in July, featuring two days of conferences, presentations, and evening performances in Piazza Garibaldi and the Town Hall. The final dates and program will be communicated by the organizers and the Municipality of Camastra in the weeks leading up to the event.
