The grand horseback gathering across the trails of the Madonie and Nebrodi mountains
The Sicilian Equestrian Associations Parade is one of the most cherished events of the summer in Gangi, a village in the Province of Palermo perched in the Madonie mountains and considered one of the most beautiful in Italy. Every year around mid-June, the event attracts riders of all ages from across central Sicily: from the Madonie and Nebrodi ranges to the Enna area. It is a celebration that blends a passion for horses, a rediscovery of the rural landscape, and community spirit.
The gathering takes place at the Foro Boario in Contrada Magione, from where the group sets off on a long itinerary winding through paths, ancient trails, and the characteristic rural landscapes of the Gangi territory. The ride allows participants to traverse some of the most evocative natural vistas between the slopes of the Madonie and Nebrodi, rediscovering historical routes once traveled by shepherds and farmers.
The event is organized by the Madonita Equestrian Association, with the patronage of the Municipality of Gangi and the collaboration of the Pro Loco. The event, reaching its twenty-first edition in 2026, is now a well-established tradition that promotes local heritage, strengthens community bonds, and boosts rural tourism in the Madonie district.
The backdrop for the event is Gangi, in the Province of Palermo, one of the most fascinating villages in Sicily. Awarded the title of "Borgo dei Borghi" (Village of Villages), the town preserves a medieval historic center of rare beauty and overlooks a hilly landscape that ideally connects the Madonie and Nebrodi Parks. The equestrian parade is also an opportunity to discover this territory from the privileged vantage point of the saddle.
The 21st edition of the Sicilian Equestrian Associations Parade was held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Gangi, confirming the great popularity of this well-established event. Around 150 riders, coming from the Nebrodi and Madonie territories, met at the Foro Boario in Contrada Magione to tackle a long itinerary through the paths and rural landscapes of the Gangi area together.
The hosts included Mayor Giuseppe Ferrarello and the president of the Madonita Equestrian Association, Carmelo Gallina. The day concluded with a convivial lunch based on local products, prepared by Pro Loco volunteers. An event that, as highlighted by the organizers, tells the story of the territory's rural soul and promotes its traditions and tourism.
Approximately 150 riders of all ages from the Madonie and Nebrodi territories took part.
Gangi can be reached by car via the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exit Tre Monzelli or Irosa) and then along the internal state roads of the Madonie. The nearest train station is Gangi-Geraci, on the internal line; alternatively, one can arrive from Palermo or Catania.
The event is reserved for riders registered through local equestrian associations. The gathering starts at the Foro Boario in Contrada Magione. For information and registration, please contact the Madonita Equestrian Association or the Gangi Pro Loco.
We recommend clothing suitable for equestrian activities and excursions in a rural environment. The final lunch features local products.
