The ski mountaineering and snowshoeing gathering in Vermiglio, Val di Sole
The Sgabanada is one of the most beloved winter events in Vermiglio, a village in the Val di Sole in the province of Trento, nestled in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. This is not a race: it is a non-competitive amateur ski mountaineering gathering that, for over twenty-five years, has turned a Sunday in February into a genuine village celebration on the snow. The spirit is exactly as the organizers intended: a day to spend together in healthy exertion, without keeping an eye on the clock.
The event features two routes that climb to an altitude with a total elevation gain of about 700 meters: the gathering for ski mountaineers and the snowshoe hike, the latter dedicated to the Cesarino Daldoss "Ceser" Memorial. Thanks to this dual format, Sgabanada is open to both those who practice ski touring with climbing skins and those who prefer to climb with snowshoes, in a welcoming environment suitable even for families and those new to mountain sports.
The meeting point is in the early morning for bib distribution, followed by the start of the ascent. At midday, all participants gather at the Vermiglio Cultural Center for a convivial lunch, followed by award ceremonies, a prize draw, and music. Since it is not a timed competition, the awards celebrate the spirit of the event rather than performance: from the largest groups to the youngest and most senior participants.
Sgabanada is organized by the Vermiglio section of the SAT (Società degli Alpinisti Trentini), with the involvement of local associations and volunteers. Over the years, it has become a landmark for winter mountain lovers in the Val di Sole and surrounding valleys—an opportunity to share a passion for the snow in a friendly and authentic setting, at the foot of the Adamello-Presanella range.
The 27th edition of Sgabanada was held on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, in Vermiglio, Val di Sole. As per tradition, the day combined the non-competitive amateur ski mountaineering gathering and the 3rd Cesarino Daldoss "Ceser" Memorial snowshoe hike, covering a route with approximately 700 meters of elevation gain. The lunch at the Cultural Center, award ceremonies, prize draws, and music concluded the event organized by the SAT section of Vermiglio.
The organization reserved the right to modify the route based on snow conditions.
