New Year's Eve in Sulden am Ortler

New Year's Eve in Sulden am Ortler, a renowned winter sports destination in the municipality of Stelvio in the province of Bolzano, is a traditional event held at the foot of the Ortler massif. Organized by the Seilbahnen Sulden lift company, the evening of December 31st transforms the ski resort into a landscape of lights, blending the magic of snow-covered mountains with the anticipation of the new year.

The torchlight procession on the slopes

The highlight is the torchlight procession (Fackelabfahrt) descending from the Kanzel along the illuminated slopes. Ski instructors and skiers make their way down with lit torches, creating a trail of light in the valley's darkness. The last ascent with the Rosim cable car is scheduled for the late afternoon, before the torchlit descent begins at dusk, offering a spectacle that can be admired from the village of Sulden.

The New Year's Eve party

The torchlight procession is followed by a New Year's party in the resort, featuring music, DJ sets, and a midnight toast to welcome the new year. The local bars and venues bring the evening to life in typical South Tyrolean après-ski style, with the view of the Ortler serving as a backdrop to the festivities.

A hamlet of the municipality of Stelvio (Stilfs) in the upper Val Venosta, Sulden is one of the highest ski destinations in South Tyrol, with slopes ranging between 1,900 and 3,250 meters in the shadow of the Ortler and the Gran Zebrù.
