About Die erschte Spur

Die erschte Spur is a winter event that allows skiers to be the first to carve their way down the pristine slopes of the Schwemmalm ski area in Val d'Ultimo (Province of Bolzano). On selected Saturdays in December and January, the lifts open as early as 7:00 AM, letting you leave the first tracks on freshly groomed snow as the sun rises over the Dolomites, followed by a mountain breakfast in the huts along the slopes. An authentic experience for lovers of snow and alpine serenity.

First tracks on the snow as the mountains wake up

Die erschte Spur, which means "the first track" in the South Tyrolean dialect, is a unique winter event in the Schwemmalm ski area, located in the heart of Val d'Ultimo in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. On select dates in December and January, the ski lifts and slopes open early at 7:00 AM—well ahead of the usual schedule—giving skiers the privilege of being the first to glide over fresh snow groomed by snowcats.

A sunrise to experience on skis

The charm of this event lies in the magical moment of dawn at high altitude: while the first rays of sun illuminate the peaks and the valley is still wrapped in silence, skiers descend along perfectly groomed and completely deserted slopes. It is a rare experience, far from the crowds, that combines a passion for skiing with the pleasure of enjoying the mountains in their most intimate and evocative atmosphere.

Breakfast in the mountain huts

After the first runs, the highlight is a mountain breakfast served in the cozy huts located directly along the Schwemmalm slopes. The participating mountain huts are:

  • Aussere Schwemmalm (by reservation)
  • Larchegg
  • Breiteben

Here, guests can recharge with traditional South Tyrolean products in a warm and convivial setting, while enjoying the view of the snow-covered mountains of Val d'Ultimo.

The Schwemmalm ski area

Schwemmalm is one of the most appreciated ski areas in South Tyrol for those seeking sport and tranquility away from the large crowds. The resort, which extends across the territory of the Municipality of Ultimo/Ulten, features numerous slopes for all skill levels and modern lift facilities, all set within an unspoiled natural landscape. Val d'Ultimo is famous for its centuries-old farmhouses, ancient larch trees, and an alpine landscape that has preserved its authentic character.

An event for snow lovers

Die erschte Spur is designed for passionate skiers and those who wish to experience the mountains in a different way: no advance booking is required to participate; simply arrive at the lifts early in the morning and let yourself be captivated by the thrill of the first tracks. The initiative is organized by the Val d'Ultimo/Proves Tourist Association, which promotes experiences linked to the local territory and its alpine identity every winter.
