The Castle of Serralunga d'Alba relives the Middle Ages with men-at-arms, historical games, and ancient crafts
Serralunga Medievalis makes its debut on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in the village and the renowned Castle of Serralunga d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of the Barolo Langhe. The first edition of this historical re-enactment transforms one of Piedmont's best-preserved 14th-century noble castles into a living stage, where the public is guided into the atmosphere of the 14th century among men-at-arms, historical games, ancient crafts, and local flavors.
The event involves the Castle and several areas of the village through guided tours, demonstrations, educational activities, and interactive moments. Throughout the day, the fortress can be visited with guided tours departing every 30 minutes, which conclude with an evocative "meeting with the apothecary." In the Castle courtyard, knights in armor will demonstrate medieval equipment, combat techniques, and the differences between war, tournaments, and duels, thanks to the educational expertise of the Accademia Scherma Alba.
Among the highlights is "The Art of the Apothecary," an educational stall dedicated to medieval trade, featuring demonstrations on medicinal herbs, ointments, perfumes, and pigments. The areas dedicated to games are managed by five districts of the Giostra delle Cento Torri (San Martino, Santa Rosalia, Rane, Santa Barbara, Patin and Tesor), with skill and dexterity challenges that evoke the spirit of village festivals and medieval public holidays.
The food and wine dimension, the pride of the Langhe, is not to be missed: the refreshment points offer dishes inspired by local traditions, while the tasting of local wines is managed by the Pro Loco of Serralunga d'Alba with the support of local producers, in the land of Barolo par excellence.
Serralunga Medievalis was born from the collaboration between the Barolo & Castles Foundation, the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Piedmont, the Municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, the Pro Loco, the Giostra delle Cento Torri, and the Accademia Scherma Alba. An event that combines the enhancement of historical heritage, popular traditions, and hospitality in one of the most picturesque villages in Piedmont.
Serralunga Medievalis kicks off on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, in the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba and in some areas of the village. The program includes guided tours of the Castle departing every 30 minutes, concluding with a meeting with the apothecary, and in the courtyard, demonstrations of men-at-arms and medieval fencing by the Accademia Scherma Alba.
Activities include "The Art of the Apothecary" with medicinal herbs, ointments, and pigments, and medieval games organized by five districts of the Giostra delle Cento Torri (San Martino, Santa Rosalia, Rane, Santa Barbara, Patin and Tesor).
