Voices of Europe performing under the stars in Piazza Europa
Every June, the Sergio Chiarlo International Choral Festival selects Moretta, in the Province of Cuneo, as the venue for one of its most evocative evenings. In Piazza Europa, under the open Piedmontese summer sky, choirs from Italy and abroad gather for a collective concert that is both a musical spectacle and a moment of connection between different communities.
The Moretta stage is part of a traveling festival that visits several municipalities in the Savigliano and Cuneo areas each year. In Moretta, the concert takes the form of a large open-air choral event, where each group presents its own repertoire before all joining together for a grand finale: a "musical exchange" that embodies the true spirit of the event.
The festival is organized by the Coro Milanollo of Savigliano, founded in 1975 by maestro Sergio Chiarlo, to whom the event is dedicated. Today, the choir is led by the founder's children, Natascia Chiarlo as director and Ivan Chiarlo on piano, and it stands as one of the most active and renowned choral groups in Piedmont. Through competitions, concerts, and international tours, the Coro Milanollo has become a true cultural ambassador for the Province of Cuneo over the years.
The Sergio Chiarlo Festival was born from this commitment to connection: each edition invites international groups to share the stage with local choirs, creating a dialogue between different repertoires, languages, and musical traditions. It is no coincidence that the Moretta evening is often titled "Voices of Europe in Concert".
For Moretta, a small town on the Cuneo plains, the festival is also an opportunity to enliven the historic center and open up to the world: for one evening, the square becomes a welcoming space for delegations arriving from various regions of Italy and, often, from other European countries.
Those who love choral music will find a high-level program here, but the Moretta stage is also perfect for anyone simply looking to spend a different kind of summer evening outdoors, letting themselves be carried away by the harmonies of the voices. It is one of those events where Piedmont shows its most authentic and communal side, where the great choral tradition intertwines with the life of a small town.
The 36th edition of the Sergio Chiarlo International Choral Festival took place from June 5 to 7, 2026, between Savigliano and Moretta, coinciding with the 51st year of the Coro Milanollo's activity. The Moretta evening, titled "Voices of Europe in Concert," represented the most anticipated open-air moment of the event, involving over 120 people including singers, conductors, and accompanying pianists.
On Piazza Europa, the Coro Milanollo of Savigliano, the Mixed Choir of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre of Tirana (Albania), the Roman choir "Minuscolo Spazio Vocale," and the Artemusica Youth Choir of Valperga took turns, for a collective concert dedicated to the meeting of different cultures and musical traditions.
