The non-competitive walk through the trails of the Reggiano Apennines
The Baiso Stage is part of Sentieri Comuni, a widespread project that each year transforms the Reggiano and Modena Apennines into a large shared itinerary. From April to October, a series of non-competitive walks touches ten municipalities between the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Modena — Sassuolo, Casalgrande, Castellarano, Baiso, Toano, Carpineti, Palagano, Frassinoro, Polinago, and Lama Mocogno — offering a different route at each event, curated by local associations.
In the territory of the Municipality of Baiso, in the hilly hinterland of the Province of Reggio Emilia, the event is organized by the Nordic Walking Baiso association, one of the eleven associative realities that animate the project. The route winds through the trails and ridges of this corner of the Apennines, a territory rich in history, traditions, good food, and intact natural landscapes. The walk is easy, suitable for everyone, between 6 and 10 kilometers long, and with a maximum duration of about three hours.
Sentieri Comuni was born from the desire to share paths, both of life and of the territory. More than a sporting event, it is an occasion for social interaction and slow discovery: you walk together, accompanied by volunteers, you get to know the landscapes and communities of the Apennines, and at the end of each stage, you share a refreshment offered by the organizing association. The project, also supported by the Province of Modena and included in the context of the Emilia-Romagna Region, also offers a digital guide of the routes on Wikiloc and a "passport" with stamps to collect at each walk.
The fourth edition of Sentieri Comuni brought its stage to Baiso on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in a charming evening version. The walk, organized by the Nordic Walking Baiso association, offered an easy and non-competitive route along the trails of the Reggiano Apennines, as part of the widespread calendar that from April to October 2026 touched ten municipalities between the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Modena.
The Baiso stage was one of eleven in the 2026 edition, within the calendar: April 19 Sassuolo, May 10 Monchio, June 7 Baiso, June 14 Toano, July 1 Polinago, July 19 Palagano, August 2 Frassinoro, August 23 Piane di Mocogno, August 30 Carpineti, September 6 Casalgrande, October 4 Castellarano.
The Baiso stage of the 2026 edition took place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in the evening.
Baiso can be reached by car from the Reggiano plain by going up towards the Apennines (exits from the Via Emilia towards Scandiano-Casalgrande, then SP for Baiso). Car is recommended: public transport connections to small Apennine towns are limited.
The participation fee is 5 euros per person (free for under 14s) and includes accompaniment and final refreshment. Past editions have sometimes included free participation.
Wear trekking or walking shoes, bring water and clothing suitable for the hilly weather. For the evening stage, a headlamp is useful. Information and updated calendar at sentiericomuni.it.
