The mountain running race on the trails of Cervasca
The Sentieri Cervaschesi is a staple of the Piedmontese running calendar. The race takes place in Cervasca, a small town in the Province of Cuneo at the foot of the Maritime Alps, attracting athletes from all over Piedmont and beyond every year. Carefully organized by ASD Dragonero, the event combines competitive mountain running with a mission to showcase the local territory and its trails.
The competitive route measures 9.6 km with approximately 447 meters of positive elevation gain: a distance that rewards speed and tactical management on both climbs and descents, following the 'up & down' format typical of FIDAL mountain running. The start and finish are located in Piazzetta dell'Asilo, the heart of the town; from there, competitors climb towards Aranzone and Pratogaudino, before descending through the woods to the Sanctuary of the Madonna degli Alpini and the San Michele area, prior to returning to the center.
Alongside the competitive race, Sentieri Cervaschesi offers the Giro dei Castagni, a shorter 3.8 km loop reserved for youth categories and older Masters, and above all, a non-competitive walk open to everyone, perfect for those who want to experience the day's atmosphere without a stopwatch. To wrap up the festivities, the traditional 'Lasagneparty' brings participants and volunteers together around the table.
The event is held in honor of the Antonella Giordanengo Memorial and has become a venue for awarding prestigious titles over the years: it has hosted the Piedmontese Regional Mountain Running Championships and is valid as a stage of the Provincial Master Up & Down Championship. For this reason, it often attracts prominent names from the national scene, such as brothers Martin and Bernard Dematteis or champion Elia Mattio.
Sentieri Cervaschesi represents the essence of mountain sports in the Cuneo region: an event rooted in the community, supported by volunteers and the CAI for trail safety, which combines high-level competition, stunning landscapes, and authentic Piedmontese hospitality.
Cervasca is located just a few kilometers from Cuneo, along the road towards Valle Grana. By car, it is easily reached from the A6 motorway (Fossano exit) or the Cuneo road network; the meeting point is in Piazzetta dell'Asilo, in the town center.
Registration for the competitive race is done online through the organizing club, with an entry fee of approximately 12 euros. The non-competitive walk is free to enter. It is possible to book the concluding 'Lasagneparty' for a cost of about 6 euros.
