Street bands transform Follonica into an open-air stage
Scorri...Bande is the street music festival that opens the season for the Grey Cat Jazz Festival, Maremma's historic jazz event, in the heart of Follonica, in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany. For two days, the city center becomes a massive open-air stage: street bands parade through pedestrian streets and squares, drawing in passersby, families, and tourists in a contagious festive atmosphere.
The concept behind Scorri...Bande is simple yet effective: take music out of traditional venues and let it literally flow through the streets. The bands start at Piazza Sivieri and animate the pedestrian center, from Via Roma to the seafront, alternating between traveling concerts and show-stopping moments. Dancers, colorful costumes, choreography, and improvisation make every edition a unique experience suitable for audiences of all ages.
The 2026 edition, a preview of the 46th Grey Cat Festival, brought three major acts to Follonica. Saturday featured the Badabimbum Band, with a fresh, ironic, and fun show blending jazz, dixieland, funk, and folk marches. Sunday saw the historic Arcidosso Street Bandโa Maremma-based group with 19th-century roots now updated with electronic instruments and a contemporary repertoireโand the Zastava Orkestar, which fuses music, theater, and juggling, drawing from Balkan and Romani traditions.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Follonica under the artistic direction of Stefano Cantini, in collaboration with the Music Pool Association, a key reference point for jazz and live music in Tuscany. Scorri...Bande is not just a musical event; it is also a way to showcase Follonica's historic center and celebrate the start of the Maremma summer, building anticipation for the main Grey Cat Jazz Festival program in the following months.
