The 10 km road race through the historic center of Sciacca
The Sciacca Terme Running Trophy, renamed Mangia's Trophy for sponsorship reasons, has become a staple of the Sicilian running calendar. It takes place in the historic center of Sciacca, a stunning spa and seaside town in the province of Agrigento, overlooking the Strait of Sicily. The event is organized by A.S.D. Sciacca Running with the patronage of the Municipality of Sciacca and has established itself over the years as one of the classic season-openers for the island's runners.
The race is a 10 km road race, officially measured and timed, consisting of a 2,000-meter city circuit to be completed five times. The start and finish are located in the central Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, a panoramic terrace overlooking the harbor. The route winds through some of the most characteristic streets of the center: Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Via Pietro Gerardi, Via Licata, Piazza Saverio Friscia, and Viale della Vittoria, offering athletes an urban backdrop rich in historical charm.
The Sciacca Terme Trophy is more than just a local race: it represents the first leg of the Sicilian Regional Grand Prix for road running and a stage of the Agrigento provincial circuit. For this reason, it attracts a large group of clubs and competitive athletes every year, with over 350 registered participants, including a strong presence of master categories, the true backbone of Sicilian running.
Running in Sciacca means immersing yourself in one of the most fascinating locations on the southern Sicilian coast. A city of ancient spa traditions, famous for its Carnival, artistic ceramics, and seafood cuisine, Sciacca offers participants and their companions a highly attractive tourist destination. The race, held in the winter months, is also an opportunity to discover the historic center during a quieter season.
The event maintains a popular, festive spirit: families, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers gather along the circuit to cheer on the runners. The organization provides refreshments, assistance, and awards for the largest teams and various categories, fostering a climate of healthy competition and appreciation for the local area.
The sixth edition of the Sciacca Terme Running Trophy took place on Sunday, January 25, 2026, with the start at 10:00 AM from Piazza Angelo Scandaliato and the meeting point set for 8:30 AM. Over 350 athletes were at the start, running the usual 2 km circuit five times through the historic center of Sciacca.
In the men's category, Cristiano Mineo (Palermo Running) won with a time of 34:21, ahead of Nicolรฒ Soffietto (34:43) and Michele Galfano (34:59). Among the women, it was a third consecutive victory in Sciacca for Luana Russo (Sciacca Running), who won in 39:44, followed by Santina and Tania Militello.
Sciacca can be reached by car via the SS115 (Agrigento-Trapani). The nearest train stations are in Castelvetrano and Agrigento, which are connected by bus. The reference airports are Palermo (Punta Raisi) and Trapani-Birgi, both about an hour and a half away by road.
Meeting point and start in Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, in the historic center. We recommend arriving early to collect your race bib and parking in areas outside the center, as the streets on the circuit are closed to traffic.
Registration is handled through FIDAL-affiliated clubs and dedicated Sicilian running platforms. The race is open to registered athletes; please consult the official regulations for fees and procedures.
