The festival of Sciacca ceramics in the heart of the historic center
Sciacca Signature Ceramics is the event that the Municipality of Sciacca dedicates to its most representative craft: Sciacca ceramics. A thermal and seaside town overlooking the Strait of Sicily, in the province of Agrigento, Sciacca has been one of the historic centers of Italian ceramics for centuries, alongside Caltagirone and Santo Stefano di Camastra. With this festival, the city showcases its identity, turning the historic center into a widespread path where ceramic art becomes a cultural, economic, and tourist asset.
The absolute protagonists are the artisanal workshops, which safeguard and renew an identity-defining tradition every day. During the event, the workshops in the center remain open to the public, and master potters hold live demonstrations, revealing the techniques of Sciacca ceramics: wheel throwing, the modeling of the famous jars, and hand-decoration with the typical colors of the Sicilian tradition. In previous editions, the workshops created new jars that were then donated to the Municipality and permanently placed among the squares and streets of the center, from Piazza Saverio Friscia to Via Roma, permanently enriching the face of the city.
The program alternates between exhibitions, guided tours through the workshops and traditional ceramic sites, meetings and seminars on the relationship between ceramics, tradition, and modernity, and evening entertainment including music, street theater, and children's activities. The squares of the historic center - including Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, Piazza Saverio Friscia, and Piazza Carmine - host the events, which enliven the evenings until late.
The 2026 edition involves the AICC - Italian Association of Ceramic Cities, the IISS "T. Fazello" with its ceramic decoration section, the Ceramic Roads Network, and ambassadors of Sciacca ceramics. A network that enhances artisanal expertise and strengthens Sciacca's role as a symbolic city of Sicilian ceramics, in dialogue with other Italian ceramic cities.
The event takes place in the historic center of Sciacca, in the province of Agrigento, Sicily. Admission to the events is free. Designed as an opening to the tourist season, it is an opportunity to discover a city of art and sea through the common thread of its ceramics.
The third edition of Sciacca Signature Ceramics took place from May 15 to 17, 2026, chosen as the opening event of the Sciacca tourist season. The appointment, initially planned for 2025, had been postponed for budgetary reasons and then recovered thanks to regional resources found by the municipal administration.
In the historic center, the potters' workshops remained open to the public, with live demonstrations of wheel throwing and decoration, guided tours, exhibitions, and evening entertainment. The edition saw the participation of the AICC - Italian Association of Ceramic Cities, the IISS "T. Fazello" (ceramic decoration section), the Ceramic Roads Network, and ambassadors of Sciacca ceramics, highlighting artisanal expertise as a cultural and economic heritage of the city.
Sciacca can be reached by car via the SS115 along the southern Sicilian coast. The nearest airports are Palermo (Punta Raisi, about 1h45) and Trapani-Birgi. The most convenient train station is in Agrigento, which is connected to Sciacca by bus.
The events are held in the historic center, including Piazza Angelo Scandaliato, Piazza Saverio Friscia, Via Roma, and the potters' workshops. The areas are pedestrianized and easily walkable.
