Spring cultural weeks in Scena, above Merano
The Schenner Langes is a series of cultural weeks that, every spring, marks the awakening of Scena/Schenna, a town in South Tyrol/Südtirol nestled on a sunny terrace above Merano, in the province of Bolzano. The local dialect name — Langes meaning "spring" — captures the spirit of the event: celebrating the season of rebirth with a widespread programme of events that spans several weeks, from the end of winter to the height of spring.
The strength of the Schenner Langes lies in the involvement of the local community fabric. Fourteen local associations work together to build the calendar, which features eighteen events of various kinds: music, theatre, folk traditions, gastronomy, and moments for families. The direction is entrusted to the Scena Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Schenna), which coordinates clubs, bands, theatre groups, and local producers.
Scena is one of the most beloved destinations in the Merano area: its mild climate, hiking trails through vineyards and blooming orchards, and the open view over the Merano basin make it an ideal starting point for discovering the South Tyrolean spring. The Schenner Langes fits into this context by enhancing the town's identity: an opportunity to experience the German-speaking culture of South Tyrol, the warmth of its associations, and the genuine flavours of the peasant tradition.
Now in its thirtieth year, the festival has become a permanent fixture in the spring calendar of the Municipality of Scena and the entire Burgraviato, alongside other seasonal initiatives such as "Schenna blüht auf". For those visiting South Tyrol in March and April, the Schenner Langes is an authentic way to connect with the daily life and traditions of a mountain community.
The spring festival of Scena/Schenna was held from March 3 to April 18, 2026, with a programme created by fourteen local associations for a total of eighteen events. Key highlights included the "Dancing and singing together" folk dance and song evening on March 10, the farmers' market (Bauernmarkt) on March 31 from 10 am to 6 pm, featuring farm specialities and local crafts, and the herb market (Unkräutermarktl) on April 18 to close the event. There were also performances by the Volksbühne Schenna, the spring concert by the Musikkapelle Schenna, and cabaret evenings for all ages.
Scena/Schenna is located just a few kilometres from Merano, in the province of Bolzano. By car: A22 Brenner motorway, exit Bolzano Sud, then the MeBo dual carriageway to Merano and the road to Scena. By train: Merano station, then SASA bus line towards Scena.
The festival takes place between March and April. Individual events have their own locations and times: many are held in the Vereinshaus (association house) of Scena, others in the squares and farms of the village.
Many events have free admission; for theatre performances and specific evenings, low-cost tickets may be required. The detailed programme is published by the Scena Tourist Association.
