The autumn festival along the Castle Road in Tirolo, featuring roasted chestnuts and South Tyrolean wine
The Schlosswegfestl, known in English as the Castle Road Festival, is the autumn harvest festival of the village of Tirolo (Dorf Tirol), a charming town overlooking the Merano basin in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-South Tyrol. The event takes place along the picturesque Castle Road (Schlossweg), the panoramic path leading to the castles that overlook the village, and celebrates the arrival of autumn with the flavors and rural traditions of the area.
When the Castle Road fills with the scent of roasted chestnuts, glasses are filled with South Tyrolean wine, and local associations serve their autumn delicacies, it is time for the Schlosswegfestl. Along the route, visitors can stroll among the stalls, taste typical harvest-season dishes, and toast with local wines in a festive atmosphere that combines taste, conviviality, and scenery. It is no coincidence that the event is also considered a small wine festival of Tirolo.
The event is accompanied by live music and the lively atmosphere of the village center, with South Tyrolean customs and rural traditions serving as a common thread. Walking among the stands, you can admire the autumn landscape of the Burgraviato, from the golden vineyards to the peaks surrounding the Adige Valley, in one of the most beautiful settings in the Merano region.
The festival is organized by the Tirolo Tourist Office (Tourismusverein Dorf Tirol), and admission is free with no reservation required. In case of bad weather, the event will not take place. The Schlosswegfestl is part of the South Tyrolean autumn food and wine events and is an excellent opportunity to discover Tirolo and its famous castles during one of the most evocative seasons of the year.
