Rittner Bauernadvent (Renon Peasant Advent)

A genuine Advent on the Renon plateau

The Rittner Bauernadvent, or Renon Peasant Advent, is considered one of the most authentic and traditional Christmas markets in South Tyrol. It takes place every year in the municipality of Renon (Ritten), on the sunny plateau overlooking the Bolzano basin in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. The setting is the park of the middle school in Collalbo (Klobenstein), located right in front of the historic Renon Railway station.

Farmers take center stage

Unlike large city markets, the Bauernadvent is rooted in the farming community: the stalls are managed by the mountain huts and families of the plateau. Here, you will find natural products, rural handicrafts, and homemade specialties in an intimate, no-frills atmosphere that has made this event one of the most beloved in the area.

• Crafts: felt slippers, hand-knitted socks, turned wood objects, herbal salts, and small artistic creations.
• Gastronomy: goulash soup, Christmas strudel, traditional sweets, mulled wine, and hot punch to warm up.
• Music: the traditional accompaniment of alphorn players creates the festive atmosphere of the day.

An experience for the whole family

While adults browse the stalls for original gift ideas and locally sourced products, children can have fun decorating gingerbread cookies. The event, which has free admission, is held on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8th, one of the highlights of the South Tyrolean Advent calendar.

How to reach us

The charm of the Rittner Bauernadvent is also linked to the journey: from Bolzano, you can ascend the plateau via the modern Renon cable car and then take the historic Renon Railway (Rittner Bahn), which stops right in front of the event venue. It is a picturesque way to experience Advent in the South Tyrolean mountains, organized by the Renon Tourist Association.
