Storytelling theatre brought to your doorstep, in the neighbourhoods of Livorno
Scenari di Quartiere is one of the most beloved events of the Livorno summer: a storytelling theatre festival that, instead of calling the audience to the theatre, brings performances directly into the neighbourhoods of Livorno, in Tuscany. Squares, walls, courtyards, villas, and streets of the Labronian capital are transformed into open-air stages, restoring to theatre its most popular and accessible dimension. Each evening takes place in a different neighbourhood, so that the entire city becomes, night after night, the set of the festival.
Born in 2015, the festival is promoted by the Fondazione Teatro Goldoni together with the Municipality of Livorno and enjoys the support of Fondazione Livorno, Unicoop Etruria, and numerous civic and entrepreneurial entities in the area. The artistic direction is entrusted to Fabrizio Brandi and Emanuele Gamba. In over a decade, Scenari di Quartiere has grown to become a point of reference not only for Livorno but for the entire Italian storytelling theatre scene, hosting nationally renowned artists.
The strength of the festival lies in its local roots: each appointment is held in a different neighbourhood, from Borgo Cappuccini to San Marco, from Shanghai to Colline, from Fabbricotti to Leccia. The audience sits in the square or in a courtyard, under the windows of the houses, to watch monologues and theatrical tales ranging from historical memory to civil stories, from comedy to poetry. Since 2023, the programme has also included three serenades in evocative places of the city, short concerts that span different genres, from vintage songs to tango.
All Scenari di Quartiere events are open to the public and free of charge. To ensure better organisation, from this year it is possible to book up to four seats per person for free, while maintaining free access for those who arrive without a reservation. This is the synthesis of the event's spirit: quality theatre that is accessible to everyone, bringing citizens closer to live arts and the places of their city.
The 2026 edition of Scenari di Quartiere confirms the winning formula of storytelling theatre brought to your doorstep, with ten appointments spread over three weekends in June in the neighbourhoods of Livorno. All performances are free admission and start at 7:30 PM (except for the evening in prison, at 6:00 PM). The artistic direction is by Fabrizio Brandi and Emanuele Gamba.
