Summer shopping evenings in the historic center of Sarentino
The Sarnar Virwitzmitte is the most anticipated summer event in Sarentino/Sarnthein, the main town of the Sarntal Valley—a secluded valley deeply rooted in its traditions in the heart of South Tyrol (Autonomous Province of Bolzano). Every Wednesday in July and August, the picturesque historic center of the village, which locals affectionately call "das Dorf", transforms into an open-air lounge where leisurely shopping becomes a special experience.
The dialect name "Virwitzmitte" evokes the curiosity ("Virwitz") of those who love browsing shop windows: during these evenings, shops stay open late, giving visitors plenty of time to discover local craftsmanship, traditional products, and village boutiques. It is not just about shopping: the event is above all an opportunity for residents and tourists to meet in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere.
The proven formula of the Virwitzmitte combines shopping with the pleasure of good food and entertainment. Along the streets of the center:
The atmosphere is typical of South Tyrolean mountain villages: genuine, welcoming, and family-oriented, set against the backdrop of the Sarntal Alps.
Sarentino is famous for its strong attachment to local identity: from traditional costumes to the typical peacock quill embroidery (Federkielstickerei), and from embroidery crafts to the Kirchtag. The Sarnar Virwitzmitte fits into this cultural context as a moment of collective celebration that enhances the commercial and social fabric of the Municipality of Sarentino, in one of the most authentic valleys of the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
Organized by the Sarntal Valley Tourist Association (Tourismusverein Sarntal), the event is now a consolidated tradition that marks the village's summer with six weekly evenings. Whether you are spending your holidays in the valley or just passing through from Bolzano, the Virwitzmitte is the ideal opportunity to experience the evening atmosphere of Sarentino, between shopping, good food, and music.
The 2026 edition takes place over six Wednesdays between July and August: July 15, 22, and 29 and August 5, 12, and 19, 2026. Each evening brings the historic center of Sarentino/Sarnthein to life from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM.
