The food and wine evening that kicks off summer in the village of Giglio Castello
Sapori tra le Mura is the event that officially opens the summer season organized by the Associazione Il Castello in the charming medieval village of Giglio Castello, the historic fortified heart of Isola del Giglio, located in the Tuscan archipelago in the Province of Grosseto. The event takes place in the setting of the Sala dei Lombi and offers an evening dedicated to food, wine, tradition, and music, as the association's slogan—which has been enlivening the island's summer nights for years—declares.
The signature dish of the evening is the bracconiera, a flavorful soup made with beans, celery, onion, and tomato that reflects the island's farming and maritime soul. Surrounding this specialty is a culinary journey dedicated to Giglio's excellence: wine from the terraced vineyards restored in recent years, extra virgin olive oil from local producers, panficato (a traditional island dessert), honey, award-winning gin, and local myrtle. A showcase celebrating the agricultural rebirth of Isola del Giglio, where the number of farms has nearly tripled in recent years.
Beyond the tastings, the evening is marked by music and the convivial atmosphere that characterizes the village festivals. Recent editions have also seen the launch of a charitable partnership with the Insieme in Rosa association, which is committed to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oncological diseases in the area, featuring the presentation of a specially designed beach towel to support the cause.
Sapori tra le Mura is the perfect opportunity to experience the village of Giglio Castello in an authentic and festive way, immersed in medieval alleys, defensive walls, and views over the sea of the Tuscan archipelago. It is the first in a long series of events that the Associazione Il Castello offers to accompany summer evenings until September, promoting the culinary culture and identity of Isola del Giglio. For the municipal administration, the event is also linked to the newly established Maremma Biological District, which embraces the identity values and natural vocation of the island.
The 2026 edition of Sapori tra le Mura took place on Monday, June 1, 2026, starting at 8:00 PM, in the Sala dei Lombi of Giglio Castello. The evening inaugurated the Associazione Il Castello's summer with the motto "Food, Wine, Tradition, and Music".
Numerous tourists and residents enjoyed the bracconiera, the bean soup that is the island's symbol, along with typical Giglio products: wine, olive oil, panficato, honey, gin, and local myrtle. The evening also saw the launch of a charitable collaboration with the Insieme in Rosa association, supporting the prevention and treatment of oncological diseases in the area.
The event kicked off the long season of summer appointments by the Associazione Il Castello, scheduled until September.
