The maritime culture and seafood excellence of Torrenova at Piazza Mare
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Sapore di Mare is the event that highlights the maritime culture, local traditions, and seafood-related culinary excellence in Torrenova, a small town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the Province of Messina (Sicily). Promoted by the municipal administration, the festival was created as a project dedicated to enhancing the town's identity and promoting local fishing and aquaculture products.
More than just a food festival, Sapore di Mare is designed as an awareness campaign aimed at consumers and the general public regarding sustainable fishing and aquaculture products and the conscious consumption of seafood. Alongside tasting stands, the event features sessions dedicated to reducing plastic in the sea, traceability, and the quality of the catch, in a constant dialogue between gastronomic tradition and the protection of the marine environment.
The concluding moment of the festival takes place in the splendid setting of Piazza Mare, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, which becomes the natural stage for an evening of flavors, encounters, and maritime culture. The space on the Torrenova seafront welcomes industry operators, producers, and visitors in the convivial atmosphere typical of Sicilian summer festivals.
A distinctive feature of Sapore di Mare is the involvement of scientific and business partners. These include the University of Palermo (STEBICEF Department), presenting research projects on the sea, and innovative companies in the seafood sector such as Duwo s.r.l., which specializes in the transport and packaging of marine products. The event thus offers seafood operators opportunities for training and expanding their commercial network, combining the popular dimension of the festival with professional and research-based aspects.
Included in the calendar of summer events promoted by the Municipality of Torrenova, Sapore di Mare helps to enliven the Tyrrhenian village and tell the story of its maritime vocation. The festival represents an opportunity to discover the flavors of the sea along this stretch of the Sicilian coast, in a context that simultaneously values gastronomy, local identity, and sustainability.
