Confetti, parade floats, and masks in the Nebrodi mountains
The Sant'Angelo di Brolo Carnival, also known as the Santangiolese Carnival, is one of the most anticipated winter events in this small village in the Nebrodi mountains, in the Province of Messina. For a few days, the town transforms into a grand open-air stage where confetti, masks, parade floats, and delicious food create an authentic folk festival that engages both young and old.
The heart of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, meticulously crafted by local master papier-mรขchรฉ artists and associations, accompanied by numerous costumed groups from the village and neighboring towns. The floats, often inspired by satirical themes and current events, travel through the historic streets amidst music and dancing, ending in the main square where the festivities continue with entertainment, shows, and tastings.
In addition to the parades, the Carnival program includes a children's carnival with prizes for the best costumes, dance evenings, family-friendly social moments, and tasty samplings of traditional carnival dishes. It is an opportunity to rediscover the flavors and rhythms of local cuisine, from fried pastries to holiday specialties, in an atmosphere of shared joy.
The Municipality of Sant'Angelo di Brolo is situated among the Nebrodi mountains, in an area with ancient roots linked to the Norman era and the Basilian monastery of San Michele Arcangelo. Visiting the village during Carnival means combining the fun of the parades with the discovery of a town rich in churches, art, and traditions, immersed in the hilly landscape of the Tyrrhenian Sicily near Messina. A festival that, year after year, renews the bond between the community and its roots.
On Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Sant'Angelo di Brolo Carnival colored the streets of the Nebrodi village with the traditional parade of allegorical floats and costumed groups. The arrival of the allegorical floats took place around 7:30 PM at the Piazza Allende tensile structure, where the party continued with music and tastings of traditional carnival specialties. There was no shortage of moments dedicated to children and families, in an atmosphere of joy and participation that confirmed the Carnival as one of the most beloved events in the village.
