A celebration of Nebrodi hazelnuts in the charming alleys of San Piero Patti
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Nebrodi mountains, in the province of Messina, the village of San Piero Patti hosts an annual grand festival dedicated to the hazelnut, a staple product of this hilly, wooded landscape in northern Sicily. For an entire weekend, the streets of the historic center transform into a culinary trail: stalls, food stands, and tastings invite residents and visitors alike to discover every possible variation of this fruit, both sweet and savory.
The hazelnut is the undisputed star. Sweet specialties include traditional hazelnut pastries, nougat, cookies, "zulli", brittle, chocolate-dipped treats, and hazelnut-topped gelato. On the savory side, visitors are often surprised by innovative hazelnut-filled arancine, pizza made with hazelnut flour, hazelnut bread, as well as lasagna, meat rolls, pestos, creams, liqueurs, and local cheeses enhanced with chopped hazelnuts or hazelnut pesto. It is a gourmet journey that showcases the creativity of the village's producers and chefs.
Alongside the tastings, the event features stalls showcasing local products and handicrafts, as well as seminars and discussions dedicated to promoting the hazelnut and the Nebrodi territory. The evenings are enlivened by musical performances and Sicilian folk groups, filling the town squares and accompanying visitors as they stroll through the stalls.
The Hazelnut Festival is also the perfect opportunity to explore San Piero Patti, a town in the Metropolitan City of Messina nestled in the Nebrodi landscape, with its historic center, churches, and the warm hospitality of its inhabitants. The event is promoted by the 'Insieme per la cittร ' association, which has always been committed to enhancing the town's flavors and traditions, with the support of the 'Teresa Martino' Pro Loco and the local community.
The 2026 edition of the San Piero Patti Hazelnut Festival is expected, as per tradition, at the beginning of autumn in the streets of the historic center of this Nebrodi village, in the province of Messina. The organizers from the 'Insieme per la cittร ' association have not yet released the official dates or the detailed program for the 2026 edition.
Based on previous editions, the festival will once again offer a rich culinary trail dedicated to the hazelnut, featuring sweet and savory specialties, local product stalls, handicrafts, and Sicilian folk music performances. The program will be published on the event's official channels in the weeks preceding the festival.
San Piero Patti (ME), Sicily. The festival takes place throughout the streets and squares of the historic center.
The event is traditionally held at the beginning of October, during the first weekend of the month.
San Piero Patti is located in the Nebrodi mountains, inland from the province of Messina. It can be reached by car from the Tyrrhenian coast (take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway exits for Patti or Brolo) and driving inland. We recommend parking at the edge of the town and continuing on foot.
Access to the festival and exhibition areas is free; tastings and products at the stalls are available for purchase.
