The 11 km road race that brings Ferentino to life in the heart of the Ciociaria region
The Sant'Ambrogio Trophy is a competitive road race held in Ferentino, a historic town in the province of Frosinone, in southern Lazio. Organized by ASD Atletica Ferentino, the event has established itself as a highly regarded fixture on the regional running calendar, attracting hundreds of athletes from across the region and neighboring provinces every year.
The race covers an 11-kilometer route, starting and finishing at the Ferentino Sports Field. The course is almost entirely flat and particularly conducive to high speeds, with the only significant elevation change being the overpass encountered around the seventh kilometer. It is a track that rewards those chasing a fast time, highly popular among runners looking to test themselves over a distance between a 10k and a half-marathon.
The race is named after Sant'Ambrogio and follows the tradition of events that blend athletic activity with the identity of the Ciociaria territory. Perched on a hill and surrounded by ancient pre-Roman walls, Ferentino offers athletes and their companions the backdrop of one of the most characteristic villages in lower Lazio. The day is designed as a collective celebration, where the competitive spirit of registered runners meets the participation of amateurs and families.
The Sant'Ambrogio Trophy is part of the official FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) and AICS circuits, a requirement that ensures accurate timing and valid rankings. Timing services are provided by Digital Race, with both overall and category rankings. The competitive format attracts well-known names in Lazio's running scene every year, from groups in the Castelli Romani to clubs from across the Ciociaria.
Participants meet at the Sports Field in the early morning, with the race starting mid-morning to allow everyone time for registration and warm-ups. The awards ceremony takes place after the race, with prizes for overall and category winners. Those wishing to participate can register online in advance or on-site until shortly before the start, subject to bib availability.
The fifth edition of the Sant'Ambrogio Trophy confirmed its place in the spring running calendar of the Ciociaria region. The race, organized by ASD Atletica Ferentino, saw numerous registered athletes and amateurs at the start, including prominent Lazio running teams such as Top Runners Castelli Romani. The 11 km course, smooth and suitable for high speeds, crossed the city with the only climb being the overpass around the seventh kilometer.
Meeting from 8:00 AM at the Ferentino Sports Field. On-site registration allowed until 8:30 AM. Start of the 11 km competitive race at 9:30 AM. Awards ceremony starting around 11:30 AM.
