About La Due Regni

La Due Regni is a road race held in Castelliri, in the province of Frosinone, which traverses the 11-kilometre stretch of the ancient border between the Papal States and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies every late summer. The route is steeped in history and memory, following the path of the Santa Maria Salome procession, passing by stone boundary markers and the challenging Collasturo climb. Organized by the Pro Loco and the Polisportiva Ciociara 'Antonio Fava', it unites sport, community, and tradition in the heart of the Liri Valley.

Running along the border of two Kingdoms

La Due Regni is an 11-kilometre road race that takes place in Castelliri, a small town in the Liri Valley in the province of Frosinone, southern Lazio. The event takes its name from the route it follows: the ancient border that for centuries separated the Papal States from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, still marked today by two stone boundary markers that runners encounter along the way.

A path through history and memory

The route partly follows the path of the traditional Santa Maria Salome procession and is mostly flat, with a demanding section represented by the Collasturo climb, which adds both physical and symbolic value to the race. Starting from Piazza Luigi D'Arpino in the centre of Castelliri, athletes traverse a territory that preserves Hernican and Roman traces, set in a hilly landscape at an altitude of approximately 260 metres.

The race was also born as an act of remembrance: it is dedicated to Franco Bonavenia, a runner who passed away suddenly, and carries a strong spirit of community that goes beyond pure sporting competition.

Organization and community

La Due Regni is organized by the Pro Loco of Castelliri together with the ASD Polisportiva Ciociara 'Antonio Fava', with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelliri and under the aegis of FIDAL Lazio and the Frosinone Provincial Committee. The race, open to registered athletes and RunCard holders, attracts dozens of clubs from all over Lazio and beyond every year: in the 2025 edition, about 140 athletes representing 47 clubs took part.

Sport, tradition, and gastronomy

At the end of the race, the festivities continue with a convivial gathering featuring local specialities, including traditional pasta from Castelliri, sealing the bond between sport, popular tradition, and the identity of the Ciociaria region. The event, reaching its third edition in 2026, has quickly established itself as one of the most cherished running events in the Frosinone provincial calendar.
