The August feast in the smallest village of Val Rendena
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Rocco Festival is the signature summer event of Massimeno, a tiny village in the Val Rendena, Trentino (Autonomous Province of Trento). Nestled on a natural terrace above the Sarca river, it offers stunning views of the Adamello-Presanella massif. With just over a hundred residents, Massimeno is the smallest municipality in the valley, giving its festival the authentic, intimate charm of a true village gathering where the whole community comes together under the August stars.
The festival honors Saint Roch, celebrated on August 16 and traditionally invoked as a protector against epidemics—a popular devotion found throughout the Alpine region. Around this date, the Pro Loco Massimeno organizes the festival, typically held on a weekend near Ferragosto, spanning the village square and its charming streets.
The festival weaves together religious tradition and local celebration. The typical program includes:
Admission is free, and the event is designed for both the local community and the holidaymakers who bring the Val Rendena and nearby Madonna di Campiglio to life in August.
Part of the Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio district, Massimeno is an ideal starting point for hikes to high-altitude mountain huts, such as Malga Movlina, a panoramic balcony overlooking the Adamello. Experiencing the San Rocco Festival means discovering a genuine corner of Trentino, far from the main tourist crowds yet immersed in one of the most evocative Alpine landscapes of the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello range.
The festival usually falls in mid-August, around Saint Roch's Day. Dates vary from year to year and are announced by the Pro Loco Massimeno in the preceding weeks; it is advisable to check the local calendar before planning your visit.
The 2026 edition of the San Rocco Festival in Massimeno is expected, as every year, around mid-August, coinciding with the feast of Saint Roch. As of now, the official dates and the 2026 program have not yet been published by the Pro Loco Massimeno. Maintaining the structure of previous editions, the festival should include religious celebrations, food stalls with Trentino specialties, and evenings of music and dancing. Updates are expected in the weeks leading up to the event.
Massimeno is located in Val Rendena, along the road rising from Pinzolo towards Madonna di Campiglio. By car: take the A22 motorway, exit at Trento Nord, then follow the SS237 del Caffaro towards Val Rendena. The village is just a few minutes from Pinzolo.
Free admission. Food stalls operate on a pay-per-item basis according to the Pro Loco price list.
In August, accommodation in Val Rendena and Madonna di Campiglio is in high demand; booking in advance is recommended. Evenings in the mountains can be cool: remember to bring a warm layer.
