The masquerade parade and the Carnival Bonfire in the heart of the Canavese region
The San Maurizio Canavese Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the Municipality of San Maurizio Canavese, in the Province of Turin, in the heart of the Piedmontese Canavese. For an afternoon, the town streets fill with confetti, costumes, and music, in a celebration that involves both young and old, renewing a popular tradition deeply rooted in the area.
The heart of the event is the masquerade parade. Masks and floats gather in Piazza Statuto in the early afternoon and, upon the signal, parade along the town streets until they reach Piazza Marconi. Colorful costumes, masked groups, and allegorical floats bring the procession to life, accompanied by the music of the local philharmonic band, in a festive atmosphere that attracts families and curious onlookers from all over the Canavese.
Once in the square, the program continues with the awards for the best masks and floats, an eagerly awaited moment that rewards the creativity and effort of the participants. Then, it is time for street games and the wild Pillow Fight, before the grand finale: the Carnival Bonfire, an ancient ritual that uses the bonfire to bid farewell to the carnival season and symbolically welcome spring. There is no shortage of music and food stalls to conclude the day in good company.
The Carnival is organized by the Parish of San Maurizio Martire and the Municipality of San Maurizio Canavese, with the collaboration of numerous local entities: the Alpini, the Merchants' Association, the Teste Quadre Committee, the La Novella Philharmonic, Fili d'Argento, the Pro Loco of Ceretta, AVIS, the Civil Protection, and the Fire Brigade. It is precisely this spirit of volunteerism and collective participation that makes the San Maurizio Carnival an authentic celebration, capable of keeping a tradition dear to the entire Canavese and Piedmont community alive.
The 2026 Carnival of San Maurizio Canavese enlivened the town on Sunday, February 15. At 2:00 PM, the masks gathered in Piazza Statuto, and at 2:30 PM, the parade set off along the streets of the center to Piazza Marconi.
In the square, the awards for the best masks and floats, games, the Pillow Fight, and the grand finale with the Carnival Bonfire followed, accompanied by music and food stalls. The free event was organized by the Parish of San Maurizio Martire and the Municipality with local associations.
