The patronal feast of Sarnonico in the Val di Non
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Upper Val di Non, the small town of Sarnonico, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), celebrates its patron saint, Saint Lawrence the Martyr, every year on August 10th. It is one of the most cherished events for the community, blending religious observance with popular festivities, following a tradition passed down for generations across the Val di Noce villages.
The heart of the celebration is the parish church of San Lorenzo, one of the most beautiful sacred buildings in the valley. Historical records mention a chapel dedicated to the saint as early as 1184, while the parish church is cited in a 1228 document. The bell tower, with its characteristic onion-shaped dome visible from afar, defines the village skyline; the facade preserves a beautiful Gothic mullioned window and an 18th-century portal. Inside, the three-nave structure features an imposing high altar, created by G. Battista Ramus and gilded by the Fogaroli family in the mid-17th century, which frames an altarpiece depicting the Madonna of the Rosary with Saints Lawrence and Valentine.
The highlight of the festivities is the solemn Mass in honor of the patron saint, accompanied by the traditional procession through the village streets. The religious celebration is complemented by social gatherings, such as the community lunch, making the day an opportunity for local families and those returning to Sarnonico to connect. The event is part of the summer calendar of the Predaia Plateau and the Val di Non, among the most appreciated destinations in Trentino during the summer season.
Sarnonico is a peaceful mountain village in the Upper Val di Non, surrounded by forests, apple orchards, and meadows. The San Lorenzo feast offers an authentic glimpse into the community life of this corner of Trentino-Alto Adige, far from mass tourism, where religious and folk traditions still retain their full identity and value.
The exact dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced: we recommend checking with the Sarnonico parish or the Upper Val di Non pastoral unit closer to August.
