The Christmas nativity scene by the Alpini Group in the small church of Sant'Antonio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Dambel, a small village in the Val di Non nestled at 750 meters above sea level in the Autonomous Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), Christmas carries the scent of wood, moss, and tradition. Inside the intimate church of Sant'Antonio, the Dambel Alpini Group sets up a nativity scene every year that is much more than a mere decoration: it is a community gesture, curated with patience and love by those who proudly wear the black-feathered hat.
As the creators describe it, the Dambel nativity scene is "a sign of hope and simplicity that accompanies us throughout the holiday season." There is nothing spectacular or pretentious about it: the strength of this Nativity lies in its modesty, the silence of the small church, and the intimate atmosphere it creates. It is an invitation to reflect, in harmony with the most heartfelt Christmas traditions of the Alpine valleys, where the nativity scene remains a cherished family and collective ritual.
The Dambel nativity scene is part of the rich Christmas program of the Val di Non, a valley famous for its apples and for the villages that come alive during Advent with nativity scenes, markets, and festive displays. Visiting the church of Sant'Antonio means discovering an authentic corner of Trentino, far from the crowds and close to the truest, most peaceful side of mountain Christmas. The initiative is organized by the local Alpini Group, with Gianfranco Pedrotti as the contact person.
The nativity scene is set up during the Christmas period, between December and the second half of January, and remains visible throughout the holidays. The dates for the 2026-2027 edition have not yet been announced: it is recommended to check for details on the Val di Non tourism channels or by contacting the Dambel Alpini Group directly.
