The fair and patronal feast of Collegno, blending faith, tradition, and local gastronomy
The San Lorenzo Fair is the highlight of the Patronal Feast that every summer transforms Collegno, a city in the greater Turin area of Piedmont, into a grand stage for tradition and conviviality. Dedicated to the patron saint Lawrence, the festival is rooted in centuries of history and stands as one of the most cherished events for the local community, attracting visitors from throughout the Turin metropolitan area.
On the third Sunday of July, Via Martiri XXX Aprile and the surrounding streets fill with merchant and artisan stalls, bringing to life the traditional commercial fair held from 9 am to 7 pm. The gastronomic heart of the day is the "Rac…colti, lavorati e mangiati" market, curated by the San Lorenzo Cultural Association and set within the picturesque grounds of Castello Provana: here, visitors can discover local products, ancient crafts, and guided tastings in a journey that celebrates the agricultural and artisan identity of Piedmont.
The Patronal Feast extends well beyond the Sunday fair: for over a week, the calendar offers concerts, shows, and social gatherings spread across the squares and parks of Collegno. Past programs have included performances by the Collegno Wind Orchestra, musical evenings in Piazza IV Novembre, organ concerts at the Church of Santa Croce, cultural walks, vintage Vespa rallies, and circus entertainment for families.
Alongside the secular events, the dimension of faith remains central to the meaning of the festival: the Solemn Holy Mass in honor of Saint Lawrence and moments of reflection mark the patronal day, recalling the deep bond between the community and its protector. It is this blend of the sacred and the popular that makes the Collegno Patronal Feast unique.
With free admission to most events, entertainment for children, tastings, markets, and cultural offerings, the San Lorenzo Fair is a day designed for all ages. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover Collegno, its history linked to the Certosa Reale and Castello Provana, and the hospitality of a city that keeps its traditions alive in the heart of the Province of Turin.
