The collective exhibition accompanying the feast of Saint George the Martyr at Palazzo Imperio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The San Giorgio Ionico City Visual Arts Exhibition is a collective art show held annually alongside the patronal feast of Saint George the Martyr, celebrated around April 23rd. The initiative is curated by the Lino Agnini Artistic and Cultural Association, a group that has been enriching the cultural life of San Giorgio Ionico, in the province of Taranto, in the heart of the Ionian Puglia, since 1996.
The exhibition is hosted in the halls of Palazzo Imperio, a historic building overlooking Piazza San Giorgio, named after the family that commissioned its construction around the mid-17th century. Since 1996, the Lino Agnini Association has used part of the palace as its headquarters, transforming it for the occasion into a distributed gallery where artists' works engage with the ancient rooms of the historic center.
The exhibition has a distinctly collective and regional character: each edition brings together numerous artists from the Ionian and Taranto area, each presenting their own works. The twenty-fifth-anniversary edition featured about thirty artists, each exhibiting two pieces. Painting is the most represented technique, alongside other forms of visual arts.
One of the exhibition's hallmarks is the encounter between visual arts and poetry: in some editions, the exhibited works were commented on with dedicated verses, which were then printed on parchment and given to the artists as a tribute. It is a way to link the painted image to the written word and to celebrate the work of each author within a community that finds itself reflected in its own cultural tradition.
Integrated into the calendar of patronal celebrations, the exhibition attracts visitors, worshippers, and curious onlookers during the festival days who, between religious services, the procession, and public events, take time to visit the show. For the Lino Agnini Association, it represents the most important appointment of the year and a testament to an organizational vitality that, having surpassed twenty-five years of activity, continues to renew itself.
At the moment, the Lino Agnini Artistic and Cultural Association has not yet made public the dates for the next Visual Arts Exhibition at Palazzo Imperio. The event, which is held annually as part of the patronal festivities of Saint George the Martyr in San Giorgio Ionico (Taranto), is traditionally hosted in the spring with free admission.
To find out the dates, times, and artists for the 2026 edition, it is advisable to follow the association's channels and the announcements in the patronal festival calendar of the Municipality of San Giorgio Ionico.
