About San Fiorenzo

Every year in late May, Bastia Mondovì celebrates its patron saint, San Fiorenzo, with a four-day festival that weaves together devotion, culture, and community spirit. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the event brings the sports area of this Cuneo-province town to life with street food along the banks of the Tanaro river, musical evenings, a solemn procession and Holy Mass, tournaments, children's entertainment, and the convivial Gran Cena di San Fiorenzo. It is a heartfelt event that unites the entire Monregalese community in a weekend of Piedmontese tradition.

The patronal feast of Bastia Mondovì

The San Fiorenzo Festival is the most anticipated event of the year for the municipality of Bastia Mondovì, a small village in the Monregalese area of the Cuneo province, in the heart of Piedmont. Dedicated to the town's patron saint, the festival takes place in late May and transforms the Via Ponte Tanaro sports area for four days into a meeting point for the entire community, featuring religious moments, gastronomy, and entertainment.

Promoted by the Pro Loco of Bastia Mondovì, the event blends the devotional sentiment linked to San Fiorenzo with the desire for togetherness typical of Piedmontese village festivals. It is an opportunity to rediscover local traditions, support local associations, and welcome visitors to the lands bathed by the Tanaro river.

Four days of events

The program alternates between culture, music, and fine dining. The opening is marked by a literary evening, with a book presentation at the Resistance Library. This is followed by the Tanaro Street Food and musical evenings, which keep the town lively until late at night with bars, sandwich shops, and DJ sets. The traditional pizza night, much loved by families, is also a staple.

Sunday is the highlight, dedicated to the religious and community dimension of the festival: the procession and the solemn Holy Mass, accompanied by the marching band, the bocce tournament, children's entertainment with juggling and workshops, and finally the convivial Gran Cena di San Fiorenzo that closes the festivities.

San Fiorenzo, patron saint and art jewel

The name of the festival refers not only to the patron saint but also to the famous Church of San Fiorenzo, a jewel of late Gothic Piedmontese art located by the Tanaro river. Its origins date back centuries, when a small shrine housed the martyr's tomb; the building was later expanded and enriched in the 15th century with an extraordinary cycle of frescoes covering over 300 square meters, considered the largest of the 15th century in Piedmont. Its scenes of Paradise and Hell, the life of the Virgin, and the stories of the saints make the church an unmissable stop for anyone visiting Bastia Mondovì.

Participating in the San Fiorenzo Festival means experiencing the genuine hospitality of the Monregalese area while discovering the rich historical and artistic heritage of this corner of the Cuneo province.
