Five days of tradition, gastronomy, and music in the village of San Chiaffredo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Cuneo plains, halfway between Busca and Tarantasca, the village of San Chiaffredo hosts its patronal festival every year in early September. It is a five-day event designed to engage adults, children, and fans of music, sports, and fine food. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco San Chiaffredo, a group of volunteers from both communities that share this village across municipal borders.
San Chiaffredo is a unique village: its territory is divided between the municipalities of Busca and Tarantasca, both in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The patronal festival has always been a moment for the two communities to gather around their saint in a spirit of conviviality and tradition. In recent years, events have been held under a new marquee, allowing for dinners and musical evenings regardless of early autumn weather.
Devotion to San Chiaffredo dates back to the Middle Ages. According to tradition, Chiaffredo, a 3rd-century Roman soldier linked to the legendary Theban Legion, was martyred in the upper Po Valley at Crissolo, where the sanctuary dedicated to him now stands. As the protector of the Marquisate of Saluzzo and, since 1511, patron of the Diocese, his feast day was set for September 7th by a synodal decree in 1585. The festival in the Cuneo village that bears his name is tied to this ancient tradition.
The festival program alternates between gastronomy and entertainment: themed dinners (ranging from bollito misto to roast pork, paella, ravioli, and the traditional closing polentata), musical evenings with dance orchestras and DJ sets, bocce tournaments, Occitan dances under the tent, sports activities like pump track sessions with mountain bike instructors, games and face painting for children, and a non-competitive fun run. It is a popular, family-friendly program typical of the best patronal festivals in the Cuneo area.
