Alatri's neighborhood festival: three days of music, tradition, and community spirit
In the summer calendar of Alatri, a historic town in the Ciociaria area of the Frosinone province (Lazio), the San Bartolomeo Festival holds a special place. It is not the town's main patronal feast, but rather the celebration of the San Bartolomeo district: an event born from the grassroots and grown year after year thanks to the commitment of the San Bartolomeo Neighborhood and Festivities Committee, which transforms the district's streets for three days into a beating heart of social life, popular culture, and joy.
The 2026 edition, the third consecutive one, takes place from July 17 to 19 with the slogan "Celebrate with us under the July sky!". The program is designed to please all ages and tastes, alternating evening music and entertainment with daytime activities for families and motor enthusiasts.
On both Friday and Saturday nights, around midnight, the traditional distribution of hot artisanal bombe (filled doughnuts) takes place—a sweet symbol of Ciociaria neighborhood festivals.
The convivial heart of the festival is the kitchen managed by the Committee's volunteers: stuffed sandwiches, French fries, and cold drinks, all served at popular prices. For Sunday's activities, the Committee invites citizens to inquire and book in advance to help organize the games and tournament effectively.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Alatri, one of the most fascinating villages in southern Lazio. The town is famous for its Acropolis with its imposing pre-Roman megalithic walls—among the best-preserved in Italy—and its medieval historic center. Experiencing the San Bartolomeo Festival means immersing yourself in the authentic hospitality of the Ciociaria region, amidst tradition, good food, and a sense of community.
What makes this event special is its deeply popular and participatory nature: it is the people of the district who build, animate, and experience it. Long-time residents, families with children, young people looking for music, and car enthusiasts gather on the same evenings, outdoors, under the summer sky. A model of community celebration that strengthens the bonds of the San Bartolomeo district of Alatri every year.
