Two days of Ciociaria cuisine, wine, and music through the village streets

The Autumn Traditions Festival is the annual event that, every October, draws visitors from across the province of Frosinone and the rest of Lazio to the historic center of Pofi. It is not a massive national festival, and that is precisely its charm: it is an authentic village celebration, built by the community around the dishes that were prepared in homes when the cold season arrived. For an entire weekend, the village streets are filled with food stalls, makeshift dining tables, and music, in an atmosphere that brings residents and guests together.
Pofi sits on a hill overlooking the Sacco Valley, within the Ciociaria region, which still preserves a landscape of walled villages and ancient churches. The historic center, enclosed by the remains of ancient fortifications, is accessed through historic gates—the Porta dell'Ulivo and the Porta del Merangolo—and concentrates the churches of Santa Maria, San Pietro, and Sant'Antonino Martire, along with several noble palaces, within a few hundred meters. During the festival, this route naturally becomes the event's itinerary: you eat, drink, and stroll along the same alleys, with stalls set up between the small squares and the village doorways.
The heart of the event is the menu, which recovers local rustic recipes every year. Among the most requested dishes in recent editions:
Everything is accompanied by local wines, served directly at the stalls. Prices remain the popular ones typical of village festivals: you build your own meal by moving from one stall to another, with no fixed menu.
Alongside the culinary offerings, the festival features live music and entertainment along the streets of the center, with local bands and folk repertoires accompanying the evenings until late. The event is designed to be enjoyed with family: the open-air format, free admission, and long hours allow you to arrive at lunchtime and stay until evening, or simply drop by for dinner.
The event is traditionally held on a weekend between the second half of October and the first days of November, with extended hours: in the 2025 edition, the stalls were open on Saturday from 12:00 PM to midnight and on Sunday from 11:00 AM to midnight. The organization is handled by the Municipality of Pofi with the involvement of local associations, and dates are usually announced a few weeks in advance through official channels.
Those looking for the "real" Italy of food festivals—where you eat well for little money, sitting at a shared table with locals serving at the counters—will find a successful example here. Combined with a visit to the Pietro Fedele Prehistoric Museum, one of the most significant collections in lower Lazio, the Autumn Traditions Festival can easily fill an entire day in Ciociaria.
At the moment, the Municipality of Pofi has not yet published the dates for the 2026 Autumn Traditions Festival. Based on previous editions — October 18 and 19 in 2025, November 2 and 3 in 2024 — the event is expected to take place on a weekend between the second half of October and the beginning of November, in the historic center of the village, in the province of Frosinone.
The format is expected to remain the same: food stalls along the village streets with traditional rustic dishes, local wines, live music, and free admission. We recommend checking the official municipal channels before traveling.
By car: A1 Milan-Naples motorway, exit at Ceprano or Frosinone, then follow provincial roads toward Pofi (about 20 minutes from the toll booth). From Rome, it is about 90 km. By train: Ceprano-Falvaterra or Frosinone station on the Rome-Cassino line, then local bus or taxi.
The historic center is pedestrianized during the festival: it is best to leave your car in the parking areas on the outskirts of the village and walk up.
Free admission. You only pay for what you consume at the food stalls, at typical village festival prices.
Wear comfortable shoes for the village's uphill alleys and bring a jacket for the evening: temperatures drop rapidly in October. For updated dates, it is best to check the official channels of the Municipality of Pofi.
