The oldest chestnut festival in the Aosta Valley
In Lillianes, in the Gressoney Valley at the foot of Monte Rosa, the chestnut is not just an autumn fruit but a true symbol of identity. The municipality is, in fact, the largest producer of chestnuts in the Aosta Valley, and from this vocation the Lillianes Chestnut Festival was born, considered the oldest in the region.
The heart of the event is the chestnut competition-exhibition: local producers display their best fruits, judged by a jury that awards prizes and, above all, the prestigious "golden marron" (the golden chestnut). The award ceremony, attended by regional and municipal authorities, is the most anticipated moment, celebrating the territory's chestnut excellence.
The program intertwines Holy Mass, the jury's work, performances by the folk group, and the sharing of chestnut-based dishes. There is also space for solidarity, with initiatives dedicated to children. The village hosts the Chestnut Museum, located in the "Il Riccio" cooperative building, which manages the collection, selection, drying, and sale of the fruit. Sunday is the main day of the event, filled with autumn flavors and community celebration in the municipality of Lillianes, in the province of Aosta.
The 2026 edition of the Lillianes Chestnut Festival, the 68th, is scheduled from October 24 to 26. The festival, organized by Pro Loco, celebrates the village's chestnut tradition with the chestnut competition-exhibition, jury evaluation, and the awarding of the prestigious golden marron in the presence of authorities. Sunday, October 26, is the highlight day, with Holy Mass, performances by the folk group, and sharing of chestnut-based dishes. There is also a solidarity initiative with a children's cookie competition benefiting the Forma Foundation of the Regina Margherita Hospital in Turin.
The Chestnut Museum at the "Il Riccio" cooperative is open. Program and reservations via Pro Loco Lillianes.
Lillianes can be reached by car from the A5 motorway (Pont-Saint-Martin exit), driving up the Gressoney Valley along the SR44. Nearest train station: Pont-Saint-Martin.
The event is organized by Pro Loco Lillianes. Some community lunches require booking. Don't miss the Chestnut Museum.
