Vintage motorcycles conquer the scenic road of the mining village of Montecatini Val di Cecina
The Salita delle Miniere is the latest motor event in Montecatini Val di Cecina, a small village perched in the province of Pisa, in the heart of the Tuscan Val di Cecina. The event celebrates the deep bond between the town and its industrial history: Montecatini Val di Cecina is famous for its ancient copper mine, one of the most important in Europe during the 19th century, now showcased by the Mining Museum. Against this backdrop of industrial archaeology, vintage motorcycles become the new protagonists, tackling the scenic road that climbs through the hills.
The heart of the event is the climb itself: a scenic route of about two kilometers along which over sixty motorcycles, affectionately called the "queens of the road," parade. This is not an aggressive timed competition, but a splendid commemorative parade that highlights the beauty of these historic vehicles and the spectacle of their forms as they tackle the curves immersed in the green hills of the Val di Cecina. The safety of the route and traffic management are guaranteed by the local police, allowing the public to watch in complete peace of mind.
The event is not limited to the climb alone. The "full-throttle" weekend opens with the exhibition of vintage gems in Piazza XXV Aprile, where enthusiasts, citizens, and visitors can admire the motorcycles and historic vehicles up close before seeing them in action on the track. It is an opportunity to get closer to motor culture, chat with collectors, and soak up the convivial atmosphere that characterizes motor rallies.
The Salita delle Miniere is part of the lively summer calendar of events in the Municipality of Montecatini Val di Cecina and the Tuscany of the inland hills, a territory that alternates village festivals, traditional celebrations like the Festa dei Ramai (Coppersmiths' Festival) at the Mining Museum, and motor rallies. Since its debut, the event has seen great public participation, confirming how the combination of a passion for engines, landscape, and the historical memory of the mining village attracts enthusiasts from all over the Val di Cecina area and beyond.
The inaugural edition of the Salita delle Miniere took place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, coinciding with World Sports Day. The event attracted numerous enthusiasts, citizens, and visitors to Montecatini Val di Cecina.
