The literary festival of Salemi, blending books, cinema, art, and poetry in the heart of the Belìce Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Salìber Fest is the main literary event in Salemi, an ancient village in the province of Trapani overlooking the Belìce Valley in Sicily. Organized by the Liber...i cultural association and supported by the Municipality of Salemi, the festival was established in 2021 and has quickly become one of the most dynamic cultural highlights in western Sicily. Every summer, typically in July, the town's historic center comes alive with book launches, dialogues with writers, poetry readings, film screenings, art exhibitions, and live performances.
The strength of Salìber Fest lies in its unique settings: events take place in some of Salemi's most evocative locations, including the Norman-Swabian Castle, the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, the Simone Corleo Municipal Library, and the Teatro del Carmine. As visitors wander through the narrow alleys of the village, they move from literary conversations to art exhibitions, and from evening film screenings to dawn performances, experiencing the festival as an immersive event woven into the urban fabric.
Under the artistic direction of Filippo Triolo, Salìber Fest has adopted an ambitious editorial vision that avoids provincialism. Each edition revolves around a theme that bridges literature, cinema, art, and theater, fostering dialogue between established authors and emerging voices. The festival also hosts the Halyciae Literary Prize — City of Salemi, dedicated to young writers under 27, whose finalist stories are premiered on stage and compiled into an anthology.
Admission is free for most events, with reservations recommended for select sessions. Salìber Fest is a wonderful opportunity to discover Salemi and its province through culture in a welcoming and participatory atmosphere.
The 2026 edition of Salìber Fest will return to Salemi, in the province of Trapani, continuing the journey started in 2021. The confirmation comes from the Halyciae Literary Prize — City of Salemi, dedicated to young writers under 27, whose ceremony is scheduled during the festival: five finalists will see their stories published in an anthology and presented on stage.
As in previous editions, the festival will animate the historic center with literary meetings, poetry, cinema, exhibitions, and performances in the village's iconic spaces. The precise dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published: we recommend following the social media channels of Salìber Fest and the Liber...i association for updates.
Salemi is located in the hinterland of the province of Trapani, in western Sicily. By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the Salemi exit. The nearest airports are Trapani-Birgi and Palermo-Punta Raisi. The reference railway station is Salemi-Gibellina on the line to Palermo, with bus connections to the town center.
Most events are free to attend; reservations are recommended for some sessions. Information and contacts are available through the Liber...i association ([email protected]) and the festival's social media channels.
Events take place in open-air spaces and historic sites in the center: we recommend comfortable shoes for walking through the alleys and a light jacket for the evenings.
