Devotion and field radicchio

In Laipacco, a hamlet of Tricesimo in the province of Udine, spring brings with it one of the most genuine festivals of the Friulian foothills: the Saint Joseph Festival. The feast links popular devotion to the patron saint of the small local church – a sixteenth-century building adorned with period frescoes – to the region's rural table, in a union that tells the story of Friuli's rural life.

The 'lidric' takes centre stage

The signature dish of the festival is field radicchio, known in Friulian as 'lidric', presented in its most traditional variations: 'lidric cul poc' (classic field radicchio), 'lidric cu lis fricis' (with crispy pancetta), and 'ûfs dûrs e lidric cul poc' (hard-boiled eggs and field radicchio). To complete the menu, grilled meats and the unmissable frico, the queen of Friulian cuisine.

Under the heated marquee

The food stand is located in a heated marquee, cosy even on the still cool evenings of March. Service follows fixed hours – from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00 – with a convenient numbering system for ordering without queues. The festival is designed to be accessible to all, with services for people with disabilities, a play area for children, and parking.

Tricesimo and the Udine foothills

Laipacco is located in the municipality of Tricesimo, in the first hilly area north of Udine, a land of villages, ancient churches, and rural traditions.
