Tradition, taste and music in the village of Paciano
The Sagra dello Strozzaprete is the most anticipated summer event in Paciano, a small municipality in the province of Perugia, listed among Italy's most beautiful villages and overlooking the hills of Lake Trasimeno. The event celebrates strozzaprete, the handmade pasta that is a symbol of Umbrian cuisine, with a formula that combines tradition, taste, and music.
The program opens with the historical procession, a costume parade through the village streets recounting important figures and characters from Paciano's history. This is followed by the spectacular nighttime go-kart race, organized by the members of the Congrega di Paciano: an adrenaline-filled, popular tradition race that draws a large crowd.
For several evenings, in the "La Valle" area, Paciano's seasoned cooks prepare a rich menu featuring strozzapreti and other typical Umbrian dishes. After dinner, Piazza Santa Maria becomes the heart of the festival with live music and performances by different artists each night, for dancing and singing under the stars.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Paciano, the sagra (local festival) is the moment when the entire village comes together around its roots. Amidst the aroma of homemade pasta, the colours of the procession, and the notes of the evening concerts, the Sagra dello Strozzaprete offers visitors an authentic Umbrian village experience, just a few minutes from the shores of Lake Trasimeno.
The 2026 edition, the eighth, of the Sagra dello Strozzaprete takes place in Paciano (PG) from August 9 to 18. The festival confirms its established format, blending tradition, taste, and entertainment.
It begins on August 9 with the historical procession retracing the figures and characters of Paciano's history, followed on August 10 by the evening go-kart race organized by the Congrega. From August 11 to 17, every evening, the "La Valle" area hosts dinners with strozzapreti menus and typical Umbrian dishes prepared by the village cooks, while Piazza Santa Maria offers live music and shows with different artists each night.
