A week of celebration among Magione's districts, culminating in the Palio del Giogo
The Settimana Magionese and Palio del Giogo is the event that transforms Magione, in the province of Perugia, into a large festive village every August. For a week, the historic centre and main squares host a playful competition between the four city districts, accompanied by music, folklore, theatre, cinema, literary events, and delicious food served in the district taverns.
The four districts of Magione competing for the Palio are: Casenuove, Caserino, Comune, and Stazione. Each district sets up its own tavern with typical Magionese dishes and prepares costumes and scenery for the historical parade.
The heart of the event is the Palio del Giogo: a challenge that recalls the ancient work in the fields and culminates in a spectacular race through the town streets. The competition is preceded by the Corteo del Palio del Giogo, in which the districts parade in costume, interpreting a historical theme related to daily life in Magione between the 13th and 14th centuries.
The highlight is the Notte delle Stelle (Night of the Stars), the concluding evening featuring the historical parade and the Palio race. The event, organised by the Pro Loco Magione Tourist Association with the support of the Municipality and numerous local associations, is one of the most cherished summer events on the Trasimeno.
The Settimana Magionese and Palio del Giogo 2026 returns to liven up the historic centre of Magione in the first ten days of August. As tradition dictates, the four districts - Casenuove, Caserino, Comune, and Stazione - will compete with their taverns, events, and the historical parade, with the Palio del Giogo race as the climax of the Night of the Stars.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with definitive dates, the theme of the parade, and the evening schedule, will be published by the Pro Loco Magione Tourist Association on the website prolocomagione.org and on official channels.
The usual structure of the week includes: the Launch of the Challenge in Piazza Carpine with flag-wavers and crossbowmen and the 'Giro Veloce' trial; children's games 'Districts without Borders' in Piazza Matteotti; evenings of music, theatre, cinema, and cultural events; district taverns with typical cuisine; and the concluding Night of the Stars with the Palio del Giogo Parade and the race between the districts.
