The schiscia, queen of Cassolnovo

In Cassolnovo, a municipality in Lomellina in the province of Pavia, the Sagra della Schisciafarniscula is the festival that welcomes autumn. The star is the schiscia, a locally produced focaccia topped with slightly spicy tomato sauce, oregano, and cheese: a simple and delicious street food enjoyed in the village streets, which gives its name to the sagra (festival).

The flavours of Lomellina

Organised by the Associazione Callerio in Piazza Campari, the sagra is a true showcase of Lomellina's peasant cuisine. Alongside the schiscia, stands offer polenta and ciudareu, rustida, donkey stew, wild boar, goose graton, cod, tripe, gorgonzola, cotechini, salamelle, and salam dla duja, as well as pizzas, focaccias, autumn desserts, and roasted chestnuts. The dishes can be enjoyed on-site, including under cover in the marquee, or taken away.

Stalls and Schisciombola

During the day, Piazza Campari comes alive with stalls and markets, while in the afternoon comes one of the most anticipated moments: the Schisciombola, the sagra's tombola (bingo game) with rich prizes. A convivial event that, edition after edition, confirms the deep bond between Cassolnovo and its gastronomic traditions, in a region — Lomellina — famous for its rice and its distinctive cuisine.
