The celebrations of the patron saint between faith, fair and Polenta Fest
The Festa di San Martino is the main patronal feast of Magenta (Province of Milan). Dedicated to Saint Martin bishop, celebrated on November 11th, it brings the community together around the Basilica of San Martino, the religious heart of the city, where the solemn international Mass is celebrated.
Alongside the liturgical moment, the festival offers a rich civil program. The 'Curiosità a Magenta' market fills Piazza Liberazione and Via Mazzini with stalls of antiques, collectibles, and crafts, while the Festa di San Martino, with the Insubria street vendors, enlivens the city center. Under the marquee in Piazza Mercato, the Polenta Fest offers the specialty that best suits the Lombard autumn.
Among the most anticipated events is the Premio San Martino d'Oro, an award with which the city honors citizens, associations, and entities that have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the community. The presentation of the award is a moment of strong civic value, which renews the sense of belonging of the people of Magenta every year.
From the presentation of volumes dedicated to local history to musical events, the Festa di San Martino transforms Magenta into a large meeting space. It is the occasion on which the city celebrates both its patron saint and its identity, in an atmosphere of participation that involves families, parishes, and local associations.
In 2026 too, Magenta celebrates its patron saint Saint Martin bishop around November 11th, with celebrations spread over several days. The program combines the solemn international Mass in the Basilica of San Martino with civil events: the 'Curiosità a Magenta' market, the Insubria street vendors' Fair, the Polenta Fest, and the presentation of the San Martino d'Oro Award.
The detailed program is published by the Municipality of Magenta in the weeks preceding the festival. Based on recent editions, it is structured as follows:
