In Redivo, a small hamlet of Averara in Alta Val Brembana, the chestnut is a true institution. The Sagra della Castagna is indeed one of the oldest festivals in the province of Bergamo, with over half a century of editions behind it. It is organized by the Associazione Castanicoltori Averara, which for years has been dedicated to the recovery and care of the ancient chestnut groves surrounding the village, bringing life back to a landscape and agricultural tradition that risked disappearing.
Chestnuts, flavors, and local culture
The festival takes place over several days in October and offers tastings of chestnuts and typical valley products, roasted chestnuts, local gastronomy, and moments dedicated to local culture. The inaugural event, hosted at the headquarters of the Consorzio Valle Averara, is traditionally dedicated to land care and chestnut groves, while on weekends the program is enriched with offerings for families and visitors.
A community celebration
The event is the result of collaboration between the Associazione Castanicoltori, the Municipality of Averara, the Gruppo Alpini, the Gruppo AIDO, the Associazione Pescatori Alta Val Mora, and the Parish of San Giacomo. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Alta Val Brembana, among the centuries-old chestnut groves and the villages that preserve the identity of the Bergamo mountains.
